So we arrive here and the food smells great. Place looks clean and hostess is friendly. Server was cool initially.
I'm gonna start with everything that was good about the restaurant. We were seated pretty quickly and in front of the kitchen. On top of being seated quickly we were also greeted quickly by our server and again the place was very clean looking. Food wise, the things that were good were the potato skins, ice cream and our drinks.
Everything else was not that great. Our server, Mayra for some reason was very passive aggressive towards us. They were busy however even considering that she wasn't very attentive towards us but was towards other tables. Our food didn't take that long to come out, maybe 30 minutes tops. It did sit on the counter though for about 7 minutes until we actually received it. With that in mind our food was more warm than anything.
The dishes themselves looked and smelled good, I had the pulled pork sandwich and put my pickles on there with some onions and got to eating. The pork was dry so not a very good start and the fries were way too salty. The pork also had little to no flavor. I had cut the sandwich in half and by the time I was finished with the first half I was considering just straight up walking out. I asked for bbq sauce (don't know why it wouldn't come with a bbq dish) but it did save the second half of the sandwich a bit, enough that I was willing to pay just because its what I should do not because it was worth it. My girlfriend had the tri-tip sandwich and that had little to no flavor meat wise and she didn't get far into hers before deciding that she wouldn't finish it. After that we figured there was no way you could mess up an Apple Crisp but I guess anything is possible. Because the Apple Crisp was not crispy/crunchy at all and if anything it was soft and soggy, mind you the ice cream hadn't even started melting yet. Despite the clean appearance of the restaurant it did come into question if it really was due to a Chihuahua straight up walking out the kitchen with a worker. I wish I could say that was a joke or that it even was a trick of the eyes but we were right by one of the kitchen entrances and saw it for ourselves.
Overall this place is not worth whatever you pay and I sincerely wish I could get a refund. I love BBQ and being from Texas and having tried multiple BBQ places in California this is easily the worst one I've been to. I hope my review reaches someone who can actually change something about this restaurant and knows what they're doing when it comes to food, otherwise we will...
Read moreWe've had Westwoods a handful of times over the last few years. Our most recent visit was tonight, and I'm reminded again why we don't frequent this restaurant often.
We made a reservation for 5pm on a Saturday evening. The place was packed, and with wait times of 45 minutes. I'm grateful for our reservation, because even though I would consider our dinner "early" it was still very busy!
We were seated relatively promptly and service was fine. My 3 star review is based on our food experience. We ordered a variety of things -- here are my thoughts.
Fried pickles -- I'm someone that loves salt, but these were SO salty. Like, extreme. So salty I couldn't even eat more than a couple! And I usually love fried pickles!!! Half of our plate went to waste, between two adults and four kids.
Applewood bacon fries -- underwhelming. Greasy fries, scant toppings. Also very salty. Not worth it.
Tito's cranberry lemonade cocktail -- this literally tasted like water with a hint of lemonade. It was as though I was drinking the the melted ice at the end of a lemonade glass. It was pink, so I know there was cranberry, but really had no flavor at all. I would not order again.
GB3 salmon salad -- nice piece of salmon (woo!) But for almost $30 I hoped to at least receive a salad with adequate toppings. The description says there would be broccoli -- there was ONE small broccoli. I'm not kidding, we even looked. There were supposed to be pears -- there were five small subcentimeter cubes. There was supposed to be blue cheese -- less than 1 tbsp crumbles. The salad tasted great, but it was mostly salmon and lettuce.
We also ordered a sandwich entree and kids meals tonight -- pretty basic and nothing special.
$130 later, we paid our tab and said we wouldn't be back anytime soon. Westwoods is definitely my least favorite of the Fansler Group...
Read more3rd time we have eaten here. Great place twice prior. Terrible experience! Hostess said 20 min. Waited 30+ Outside. Walked inside and asked as we were the top of the list at the 2nd hostess stand started when we walked in. She nicely explained that we called your name and no one came so we moved forward even though I told her directly that since there was no seating to wait inside we would be outside. She said sorry and I specifically clarified she would come outside and call names in future. She agreed! 20+more minutes passed and went inside again to check to find she had passed us by again as we didn’t respond. She said the front hostess called your name and you never came. I reminded her of our conversation about coming outside to tell the outside customers they are up. She said she told the inside hostesses and it wasn’t her job it was the front hostess fault. I said to her that she neglected to do her job and told her she was doing a terrible job. The manager came out and told me I was yelling at her employees and actually accused me of calling them “retarded”. This is beyond unacceptable at this point. To accuse a customer and listen to a very youthful inadequate employee who neglected her job and blamed others. Very bad customer service and enablement and bailing out a very young and entitled and incompetent young employee that could have just seated us and apologized instead of blaming others for the mistake and lying about what was said. Will not be returning or recommending this establishment. This type of behavior needs to be discouraged rather than enabled and encouraged. Sad as poor management will catch up in the long end of...
