Gwalia is proof that not everything from Gujarat should be exported. This establishment manages to strip even the joy from sweets, namkeen, and hospitality.
Before one even enters, the curbside scene is dismal—overflowing trash bins, sticky soda cups in the flowerbeds (such as they are), and weeds growing tall enough to cast shadows. Landscaping? Nonexistent. It’s as if they expect customers to lower their standards the moment they smell frying oil. In my upbringing, a business entrance was a handshake; here, it’s a shove in the chest.
Inside, the counters are cluttered with sweets that appear to have been sitting out long enough to develop their own personalities. Jalebis limp and sweating, barfis dulled to the color of old chalk, and namkeen stored in jars with fingerprints smudged across the glass. The arrangement looks more like a temple fundraising table than a professional confectionery.
The dining section is no refuge—sticky floors, plastic chairs that wobble, and décor that feels like it was chosen from the clearance bin of a closing sari shop. Service is… familiar to the point of being intrusive. Back home, there is a dignity to serving; here, I am addressed like a man queuing for rations.
The clientele mirrors the space: loud, undisciplined, and utterly lacking the grace of refined dining. Conversations erupt across tables, children clamber on chairs, and the occasional shouting into mobile phones makes it impossible to enjoy even the smallest sweet without interruption.
In Gujarat, there are establishments where sweets are works of art—crafted with care, presented with reverence. Gwalia is the opposite: a monument to what happens when the lowest standards are given the highest visibility. I would sooner eat from the temple prasadam line than set...

Date of Visit: August 31, 2025 Location: Gwalia Sweets, Namkeen, and Restaurant Address: 5266 Independence Pkwy Suite 115, Frisco, TX 75035 Guests: Myself, my younger brother, and my mother
This was, without question, one of the most shocking and disturbing dining experiences I’ve ever had. We ordered several items, including: Ferrero Rocher Milkshake Mango Mastani Imarti Bhel Puri Amritsari Kulcha Chole
Everything seemed fine until we began eating the Amritsari Kulcha Chole. To my absolute horror, I found a stainless steel nail inside the chole. A metal nail — not a spice, not a mistake — an actual dangerous, sharp object that could have seriously harmed someone had it gone unnoticed. Thankfully, by sheer luck and the grace of God, I saw the nail in Chole. I immediately brought it to the attention of the manager. They apologized and, to their credit, did not charge us for anything.
However, a waived bill does not undo the negligence of serving potentially life-threatening food. This isn’t just about bad service or poor hygiene — this is about basic food safety and human life. A child or elder could have swallowed that nail, and the consequences could have been disastrous.
My sincere warning to anyone planning to visit: ⚠️ Please inspect your food thoroughly before eating here. I have also attached a picture of the nail and our bill as proof. This level of carelessness is unacceptable for any food establishment, especially one serving families and children. I hope Gwalia takes this matter seriously and revisits their kitchen practices and quality control measures before something...
Read moreOur recent visit to Gwalia for an early dinner with friends was a treat! This restaurant truly shines when it comes to its North Indian dishes. We started with the aloo tikki and dahi papdi chaat. Both were tasty, with the aloo tikki being perfectly crisp and the chutneys spot-on. The papdi in the chaat were a little on the thick side, but still enjoyable. The amritsari kulcha and chole bhature were next. The chole were the star – truly authentic Punjabi flavors! Both dishes came with all the right accompaniments. The amritsari kulcha was a good attempt, though a bit thick, and the bhature could have used a bit more fermentation. The kids loved the classic Bombay-style grilled club sandwich, and we all enjoyed the bhakri pizza, though we've had better versions nearby. Bonus points for the generous use of Amul cheese in both! The rumali roti with kadhai paneer and haaka noodles were also delicious, and the portions were generous. For dessert, we shared the moong dal halwa. The halwa was served hot with good taste and the right amount of sweetness. A special mention goes to the live pan counter! My wife and I were thrilled to find sadaa pan, and it was delightful, even if a bit pricey. The service was prompt, however, it was a little difficult to identify staff as they were not wearing specific uniforms. The table spacing was also a bit tight for our...
