I love this place, and I’ve had enough of the incredibly ignorant comments from people who seem to think that just because the company was founded by “white brothers,” the food isn’t an authentic Hawaiian plate lunch style. Those kind of ignorant comments completely ignore and disrespect the hundreds of Hawaiian born and raised people who spent their time and effort educating the McNie brothers in the vast history and vibrant culture of Hawaii.
You assume incorrectly that the McNie brothers simply looked at the style and decided to appropriate it, but what you fail to understand is that the brothers spent years in Hawaii learning about the culture, and working with native Hawaiian people to perfect their style to bring an authentic Hawaiian cuisine back to the mainlands. Additionally, it disturbs and disgusts me how many people seem to think Hawaiian automatically means not white. Hawaii is a diverse set of islands made up of people of all colours. All Polynesian people are not Hawaiian, and not all Hawaiian people are Polynesian. While the McNie brothers are not Hawaiian born and raised, those who see two “white” people and automatically assume they are not Hawaiian because of the colour of their skin without knowing their background should be ashamed.
Hawaiian Bros Island Grill was founded by two brothers who fell in love with traditional Hawaiian food and culture, and wanted to help share the culture, history, and delicious food with those who otherwise would not have had the ability to try it, and to bring a little piece of Hawaiian paradise onto the mainlands. This place rocks, and it’s a love letter to Hawaii itself. If you don’t have anything nice to say, or constructive criticism for the HawaiianBros crew to learn from, keep it to...
Read moreTried this place out for the first time. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. After trying to figure out where the Loco Moco, Kalbi Short Ribs, Chicken Katsu was on the menu, I ordered the Honolulu Chicken. What's with the untraditional names for the "traditional" plate lunch? Where's the beef?
The food was just okay. When you first open the box, it’s a bit underwhelming compared to the menu pics. I think It's overpriced for the amount of food you're getting. The mac salad was salty. The Honolulu Chicken had nice flavor but was a tad on the salty. There was barely any as ratio of rice to the meat was like 5 to 1. Where's the bed of steamed cabbage?
I'm pretty sure whoever is rating this place 5 stars has never had real Hawaiian plate lunch before. If you want legit Hawaiian, Shaka Hawaiian BBQ in The Colony is the best one in the area. L&L in Plano is another solid choice. I'll give the other location in Frisco a shot, but my...
Read moreTried Hawaiian Bros for the first time tonight and was very disappointed. Service was terrible. We selected to dine in and waited for our food for almost 30 min. When we got up to see why our food hadn’t come out yet we discovered our food was in the to go area. We asked why our food was not brought out to us like the other families who selected dine in and the employee responded with “my bad.” I was hoping the food would make up for the lack of service, but sadly no. This food is terribly salty but didn’t have a lot of flavor outside of salt! We looked up the nutritional facts after to see how much salt the meals have and it is scary high in salt and calories. I wasn’t expecting it to be healthy, but this seemed worse than most fast food. One of the “healthiest” items on the menu was the ice cream…
Unfortunately, this was not a good experience and we won’t...
