Biggest $20 disappointment I've had. I've been eager to try the bbq filled baked potato since I found out they had it. Ordered the pulled pork one with no green onions. Sitting in the drive thru I saw mac and cheese with bbq and couldn't resist trying that too so I ordered it with the brisket. It smelled great when they handed it to me and I hurried home to eat. The first thing I noticed inside was the bottom of the bag was wet .. with grease .. that had spilled out from the brisket on top of the mac and cheese! I took the lid off and it was covered in grease. There was also grease pooled around the brisket. I used 3, literally 3, paper towels soaking up grease before I could take a bite! That's just gross. The Mac and cheese was probably tasty but the meat didn't have much flavor. And still, so much grease. Then I opened the potato container and I almost laughed. The potato was big but there was hardly any meat on it and no cheese visible. The sour cream was drizzled on like it was sauce. The pulled pork was stringy and tangled in itself. I'm not sure why it looked like this but it wasn't appealing at all. The potato was cooked well and had salt on one side but it was very disappointing. I've had bbq topped potatoes from multiple places and I've never seen one as pitiful as this one. I guess I never have to go back but with all the hoopla about this store opening, I certainly...

About the Experience: This BBQ joint offers a pleasant ambiance, making it an ideal spot to relax and catch a sports game. The draft selection includes some enticing options; we opted for the German brew, which proved to be enjoyable.
In terms of food, the natural pulled pork sandwich was a highlight, delivering amazing flavors. However, the fiery torpedo, priced at $5, felt a bit expensive for what it offered—poblano pepper stuffed with pulled pork and cheese, wrapped in bacon.
Unfortunately, the El Efe brisket sandwich failed to leave a lasting impression on the taste buds. On a positive note, the variety of sauces offered on the side was a noteworthy addition, enhancing the overall barbecue experience.
In summary, True Texas BBQ within HEB grocery offers a mixed experience with highlights in flavor, a comfortable setting, and interesting drink options. However, the pricing and inconsistent impressions from certain dishes contribute to a...
Read moreSaw a Texas Monthly review of this chain BBQ joint so thought I would try when it came to town. Shopping at HEB I also noticed a line waiting for service at the True outlet in the store, must be great right?.
So, I got to HEB in mid week at midafternoon recently and the line was short so I decided to indulge.
Revelation One: The lines are generally long because they only have one person at the counter taking orders (e.g. slow process).
Revelation Two: No trays of food in the counter from which to see and select the items
Revelation Three: Got to the register after a long wait, chose a meat plate (2 meats & 2 sides as posted) and discovered the order taker did not know what came with the plate – what choices I could make / how many sides (Tough to determine when the menu in back of the server said two meats and two sides.)
Revelation Four: After finally paying and getting an order number, I had to wait 10 minutes to get my order (total time @30 minutes)
Revelation Five: The food itself was bland. I have had much better Q at chain restaurants nearby in...
