This is a definition of a fine dining restaurant... From the moment you pull up at the door.. a complimentary valet takes care of your vehicle. .. no hassles to look for parking... to the person that opens the door so you can enter.. to the person at the reception desk.. takes your reservation and allocates a table to you.. the person that takes you to your table.. That is just the the start of your awesome journey of culinary excellence.... White table cloths.. attentive knowledgeable waiters... a simple menu.. one side the chefs specials.. and local wine pairings. The other with restaurant's specialities and wine pairings to go with it.. Simple to choose from.. (That way everything can be prepared fresh and ala carte. ) The cocktails are assembled then brought over to your table for the final shake and mix.. then poured into your glass at the table.. The wine is opened then decanted for proper aeration.. attention to detail... The hot bread straight from the oven... the various butters.. today is was smoked gouda with cabernet butter and brie with champagne butter.. that alone could have been my meal... it was so good.. We chose the chef specials.. the sea scallops and lamb cutlets.. to be prepared by the kitchen that is open to view.. by a team of experts... everything was fresh ....well prepared and to order.. no over seasoning or too little.. just perfect.. Even though you had a waiter assigned to your table.. the other waiters were attentive to you as well.. water filled.. wine poured.. table cleared and set.. crumbs brushed off.. Food was delivered hot and with flair.. I have to say as an retired executive chef/ restaurant owner.. I finally found a place worthy of my appraise in St Louis... it was worth the money.. one evening of pure bliss.. and culinary enjoyment.. I was transported back to my younger days.. when food was perfect.. The lamb was like butter soft and tender.. The scallops seared and melted like butter on your tongue. . The sauces that accompanied the dishes.. made the meal perfect.. I can see Steve Cox the chef is a classical chef.. the sauce made correctly makes the dish. .. Every bite was bursting with flavour..( I truly licked my chops..pun intended ). The attentiveness of the staff was awesome.. checking the water.. wine... food .. extra bread.. etc.. everything just flowed.. looking around and at other tables. .I could see the same happening there.. everyone enjoying the food and atmosphere... The layout of the restaurant was well planned.. Bar and counter as you come in.. two screens for those that cannot tear themselves away from sports.. Then the well laid out dining area.. and the wine cabinet keeping the wines at the right temperature. . Then at the back a private function room/wine tasting room... also with a wall of wine... lights were dimmed just right so you could see enough.. but not too bright as to ruin the atmosphere... Overall it was a delightful experience.. the chocolate covered mints.. to our car waiting for us by the exit.. I could not take photos of the awesome food.. it just felt out of place pulling out the phone to take pictures.. the venue was just too classy... btw... no one was stuck to their phones.. or texting etc.. everyone was chatting with each other.....
Read moreWe came here for my wife's birthday on apparently the busiest weekend of the year for restaurants. We made reservations for her birthday and the glitter was quite special on the table. There was also a small box of truffles, as well as a card. It was a nice touch. I wish I could say the same for the food. I won't say that it was a horrible experience; I just feel that there's room for improvement for an establishment of this caliber.
We ordered a bottle of Riesling and I had a Moscow Mule to start. Bottle presentation was superb. My Moscow Mule wasn't as strong as I would get it at another place. Now that I think about it, I don't believe there was any mint in it.
We began our gastro-journey with the lobster bisque and calamari for an appetizer. The soup has room for improvement. Specifically, I've had bisque with literal chunks of lobster and crab; this one only had a few. The calamari felt weighted down from the honey glaze on top of the batter.
For the main course, we had the french-cut rack of lamb cooked medium-rare and petite filet mignon cooked medium with crab topping. The lamb seasoning was a bit bland; very surprised to not see any fresh rosemary sprigs, as that's a major key in preparing any lamb at this tier of eateries. A bit of fresh garlic and hint of lemon would have brightened the taste profile as well. As for the filet mignon, it was cooked a tad too long and the crab topping looked like an after-thought. I've had better execution elsewhere. Our sides were Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and cream spinach. The potatoes were definitely creamy, but again, there could have been better on the execution. Our son had the macaroni and cheese and he enjoyed that. For dessert, we had key lime pie and the chocolate cake. Nothing too remarkable about these dishes either. It was just a-ok.
As for the service, again, it was just plain okay. I understand the waitress may have had a busy night already, but we had the feeling that she really would have rather been somewhere else.
I've read other reviews and I agree: for the price, I would have expected outstanding stellar service for the prices I paid. We probably will come back, but unless there's marked improvement, it will not be our go-to for special occasions.
Not everything about this place is mediocre. The one thing this Fleming's has going for it was the location, as it is less than six months old. Seating was new and everything about the place is quite clean, including the restrooms. It definitely feels upscale and the noise level was low where we were seated (towards the back in one of the private rooms). The complimentary valet was thoughtful as well. As for the overall experience, I hope the manager takes this into consideration and look at their competition. In this price range, you've got to hit all cylinders all the time. I wish Fleming's...

The Meyer lemon was a nice touch, although it seemed to fall to the bottom of the glass a bit. They had run out of clean martini glasses, and it was served in a snifter, which may have had something to do with that. My wife and daughter enjoyed their cocktails, although at this point I cannot remember what they had. My wife and I each ordered a glass of red wine. My wife, a Pinot noir and me a blend. Decent by themselves but very good with our entrees. We decided we slightly preferred the blend. We started with the beef carpaccio, which had a drizzle of mustard sauce, which enhanced the flavor of the beef. It is now in a virtual tie with the beef carpaccio served at Dominic’s on the Hill as the best we have had. Our daughter ordered fresh oysters, which I also tried. Very clean taste. The oysters are served on a bed of seaweed, which I thought was a nice touch, and I ate some of it. I though it was good, but then again I like anchovies. My wife ordered shrimp, which were large and tender. All the appetizers were excellent. I ordered a featured apple and mixed green salad. The dressing, which was slightly sweet, blended well with the slight bitterness of the mixed greens. My wife and daughter split the “petite” (8 oz.) filet mignon, and I had one by myself. They ordered their steak medium rare, which it was, and I asked if I could have my prepared between rare and medium rare. They nailed it. Perfect. The steaks were very tender (prime) with a nicely charred crust. We ordered the Fleming potatoes, which I can recommend and the Brussel sprouts, which were good, not great. Cooked just fine, slightly crunchy. They were served whole, but I think they would be better if they were cut in half before cooking, perhaps in thirds for the larger ones. My wife and daughter split the cheesecake, which they said was very good. I ordered the olive oil cake. I thought it was a tad dry. It was comparable to the olive oil cake I have had at other restaurants except for one: it pales in comparison to the olive oil cake I had at Little Fox. The service was great. Attentive but not intrusive. Expensive, but we definitely got what...
