Today's my birthday and I decide to go down to South 13th Street, Gainesville Florida and I've been seeing this restaurant for a while and I decided to go. It's a special day my 56 birthday and I decide to try something new. It advertised as Egyptian cuisine. I I said what the heck and went on in. It's a little place maybe 30/ 40 seats. You go up to the small counter and order. On one side is a lineup five different types of baklava! Do they look so good! You had a plastic covered paper menu sitting there which you ordered off of. I chose to get the hero platter with extra tzatziki sauce. And I chose to get extra vegetables instead of rice. The man at the register was really sweet. I told him it was my birthday and he did a little something extra for me which was nice. On one wall is a bunch of different pictures from Egypt with one picture of a variety of foods. You had plastic silverware and ketchup excetera on one corner wall and the rest was tables and open space. It was very clean. And that was nice to see. You had a TV playing I believe was Egyptian music. Catchy but I would have loved to been able to understand the words even a little writing under the screen would have been nice to see but that was the TV station. The food came out it was on a tray with Styrofoam boxes and wrapped other Foods. It came with naan bread and I got an extra tzatziki. the box with the food was full! The Naan bread was absolutely delicious! And the Hero part of it was awesome! The onions didn't have any color on it but they were steamed Just A Perfect crispness to be sweet but crunchy. It also had a little bit of plain hummus. Everything was tasty. And the price wasn't too too bad. Almost twenty bucks for the hero dinner, Naan bread. And a drink and two pieces of baklava. I had to try they had variety. If you're in Gainesville and looking for something a little different or vegan it's the...
Read moreMy second time to this establishment. The wife and I ordered takeout from Gyro Plus several years ago and very much enjoyed the food so while staying in a hotel within walking distance this trip we decided to get take out again. The meal did not disappoint. We had the beef and lamb platter which came with gyro bread on the side. The main meal of beef and lamb was served over seasoned white rice. The two side dishes were a side salad of tomato and lettuce and humus. The side salad was fresh and had a Greek salad dressing. The humus was creamy, nicely spiced and attractively displayed. The beef and lamb was tender and plentiful and the rice was nicely seasoned and properly cooked. The prices have gone up since the last time we ate here but we very much enjoyed the meal. Oh, and we each had a piece of pecan baklava and as I was eating it I was wondering how someone could make something that is so labor intensive to make, has such good ingredients in it and is so heavenly to eat for the price they charge. Worth the price of admission. Will eat here again and would be eating here regularly if we lived in Gainesville. We don't eat out often and this was...
Read moreI love how hard the owner worked to make this feel as normal as possible for everyone involved. For example, even though we were the only people in the restaurant picking up a to go order, he gave us a number and called our order into the microphone by the cash register. He could have just stepped back two feet and opened the door to the kitchen to tell them what we wanted to eat because there was clearly no rush going on. In fact, he had to step back there to clarify what it was that he told them over the microphone. when our order was ready he also called out our number even though we were standing 6 ft in front of him. He has a process and he was following that process perfectly even though there was not much going on in his restaurant. When we got back to our hotel we were treated to some of the most amazing Lebanese food we have ever had. The pita pockets were extremely fresh and the baba ganoush tasted like they had just made it special for us. They cut the lamb and beef very thin so it was cooked very well and had a lot of great flavor. This is now my wife's favorite restaurant in all of Gainesville. I highly...
