I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. My wife's mother had passed away earlier that day, and we received a surprise visit from a friend. However, our meal was marred by poor service from one of the servers.
The waiter refused to let my foster brother, who was visiting from the Philippines, order just palak paneer without rice, and similarly, would not allow us to order side items with our dishes. When I asked for Puris, he pretended not to understand me until I used an Indian accent, and then he said no. He interrupted us during ordering, telling us he had other orders to take and cutting us off mid-order.
When we asked for naan for everyone, he did not bring it, and when we asked again, he was confrontational and only allowed us to order two pieces of naan. Instead of asking if we needed anything else, he told us the "kitchen closes in 5 minutes." However, 10 minutes later, an attractive young Indian woman was served samosas.
The waiter was consistently unfriendly and dismi a v assive. When we asked for more napkins, he slapped them down on the table with annoyance. Another employee stared at our child for most of the meal, making our child comment on how uncomfortable it was.
Clearly, we were the only non-Indian customers in the restaurant, and everyone else seemed satisfied with the service. The manager, whom I recognized from our frequent visits to the restaurant, rushed out the door without acknowledging us or making eye contact.
As the restaurant was closing, many Indian people started arriving and were allowed to linger around the store. At 7 minutes to close, the two waiters, including a large man, were behind the cleaning crew and stood close to our table, facing us in a confrontational manner. It felt like they were urging us to leave, and at that point, I felt physically threatened and immediately left the restaurant.
I'm giving this restaurant two stars instead of one because the food was decent, but...

📍 3550 SW 34th St, Gainesville, FL
If you’re craving bold, authentic South Indian flavors in Gainesville, Indian Street Food is a must-visit. We stopped by recently and were blown away by how flavorful everything was—from the first bite to the last.
What We Ordered: •Andhra Masala Dosa This dosa was perfection—thin, crisp edges with a hearty, spicy potato filling that hit all the right notes. The accompanying sambar and chutneys were fresh and full of depth. Truly reminded me of the kind you’d get back home or from a proper street stall in India. •Vada Golden, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside—these savory lentil fritters were served piping hot and paired beautifully with the coconut chutney. Comfort food at its finest. •Cut Mirchi A spicy, crunchy treat that packed a punch. These fried green chilies are not for the faint-hearted, but if you love heat and texture, you’ll absolutely enjoy this one.
Service & Vibe: The service was friendly and efficient. Food came out quickly, and the staff were helpful in explaining the dishes. The space is simple and unpretentious—exactly what you’d expect from a spot focused on delivering street-style flavor.
Final Thoughts: Indian Street Food delivers exactly what the name promises. Each dish felt like a love letter to traditional South Indian snacks—bold, spicy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. If you’re in Gainesville and looking for a taste of real Indian street food, this place should be high...
Read moreI was going to have dinner with a friend and we decided that we wanted South Indian food! It was perfect that Indian Street Food just opened and that their selection of food was different than we're used to.
We asked the waiter what he suggested and he said that people come to their restaurant for dosa. Which is bread filled with flavored potatoes and sauces on the side! So we ordered the onion masala dosa. We also order something from the Indo-Chinese section, golbi manchurian. I'm trying my best to remember the last dish that we ordered but I honestly cannot find it on the menu.
Out of the three dishes my friend and I order, my favorite was the one that I don't remember it's name :( It was such a fresh zesty, crunchy, and flavorful dish. It had chickpeas and filled with cilantro I believe. It was so good though the size of the dish was small. My next favorite was the golbi manchurian! It was spicy but it complemented well with our other dishes. Though the dosa was known to Indian Street Food, I was unfortunately my least favorite. The filling (onion masala potato) was bland and didn't have much flavor to it. But otherwise, service and...
