Take older positive reviews for Crepes-a-Go-Go with a grain of salt. This was once the spot of choice for French-style crepes and coffee. Unfortunately, the quality of food & service has taken a sharp decline despite rising costs.
The crepes themselves are passable in flavor, yet are somehow always soggy or dry. The fillings are also just laughable. For whatever reason, the savory ones in particular have begun using very cheap lunch meat and excessively sparse servings of rubbery cheese.
More frustrating is the lack of care for coffee crafting here, and continuing to charge more than average for espresso prices. Caffè lattes are basic fare for any espresso joint. The ones here were once solid. Unfortunately, what you'll find here is now hands down the worst coffee you can find in the area. Either current employees have not been trained on their shot pulling, steaming, or pour, or standards have gone out the window.
I have desperately wanted something to be salvageable here. Having been a barista for years, I also understand it can take time for new hires to nail the craft. Yet regardless of who's made my drink or the time passed the result is the same: thin, poorly extracted espresso; scorched milk; foam the texture of dish soap bubbles. My second-hand cheapo De'Longhi makes more robust drinks.
The service has also just been frustrating. The service industry is notoriously overworked, particularly these past couple years. I have less patience when there's minutes of waiting to order when employees are on standby in an empty shop.
While the prices are only slightly above average (closer to 1.5x higher for the coffee) for a local café, the costs are exorbitant considering the above. It's especially ludicrous when compared to the surrounding locations. For another local café, FD Book Cafe is half a block over. It offers solid coffee, lovely brunch fare, and an incredible owner that is diligent with everything served.
Skip Crepes-a-Go-Go. Supporting small businesses is a worthwhile endeavor, but better offered to...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK FOR CATERING. CANCELLED LAST MINUTE. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL.
I had booked my event with this company 4 weeks prior to my event. A week before the event- when I contacted the company to ensure all was set and to see if a deposit was needed or if I could add my own toppings. 1 hour after I reached out to them I received a text from the owner- Mourad that his partner Rachid is cancelling my event. When I asked for a phone call to explain what happened, I was told it was too late for a phone call (despite the fact that the owner had JUST texted me). See attached screen shots of texts. I waited to speak to someone before disparaging a small business but after the phone call I just received from co-owner Rachid, I had to say something.
He called me this morning to tell me that because my event was small and that because I asked too many questions- my event was cancelled. He continue to tell me how busy they are with corporate events and other larger clients.
When I explained that I had only asked two questions- 1. where to send the deposit and 2. if I could add my own toppings, and I also reminded him that I have previously used this company several times in the last few years- he said “I didn’t know that, ok fine we will do your event.”
I told him I would never rebook an event with his company as there is no trust or professionalism, if they were truly short staffed, a phone explaining the situation and apologizing would have been way more professional than receiving a text at 9pm at night that says “we are cancelling your event”.
So for anyone out there who can not afford being cancelled on last minute for a catering event- I would highly recommend going elsewhere. There are many crepe companies and trucks out there with better tasting food and higher quality ingredients and who are more professional and deserving of...
Read moreI always enjoy eating here when I am in town. I usually get a banana and cream crepe with a mocha that is always delicious. Today I decided on a ham and cheddar omelet, a plain waffle, and a much needed large 20 oz mocha. (No rabbit food for me today). The omelet was prepared on the crepe grill so it was not as fluffy as you may expect from a breakfast diner but it was very good. They put a seasoning on it that caught me by surprise (I asked... Garlic herb) that was quite delicious. Visually, as far as plating goes, it was not garnished. The waffle was a rectangular Belgium waffle and I think they used the crepe mix for the waffle. The texture was denser and not as airy as Belgium waffles I have had in the past from other restaurants but just as delicious. Again, it was plated without a powdered sugar or berry garnish. That didn't detract from the taste. The restaurant itself is simply decorated with stained concrete floor with jazzy background music quiet enough not to compete with conversations. The crepe specialist (cook? Not sure what you would call them) and the cashier / manager were very friendly. During this time. I have watched numerous patrons order savory crepes as well as sweet crepes. They have a diverse menu and offerings for vegan and vegetarian diners. They do have wifi. Just get the ID and password posted at the counter. They have Gelato (a peanut butter one I want to sample for future reference)! Bonus, they have Kinder Eggs for sale at the counter.. (and...
