Dropped by for what we hoped would be a quick lunch at 12 with my SO, who had recommended this place over Dogfish Head. What a mistake. We were seated and got our orders in immediately since we both knew we wanted burgers. We ordered two burgers, a pretzel, and I ordered a coke. I was given a rum & coke (okay..) after 5 minutes.
After another 20 minutes of waiting, the waitress stopped by to let us know that "there was an issue with the ticket printer" (apparently no one else had this issue) and that they were making our food "as fast as they could". Another 20 minutes passed, at which point we were starving and were getting ready to walk out. The waitress finally returned with the pretzel sticks. There were 3 sauces, a mustard dip which was good, a rather bland cheese dip, and an overly sweet dip. We pretty much inhaled the pretzel since we were ridiculously hungry at this point. The pretzel itself wasn't anything special. Another 10 minutes passed, at which point we were again preparing to exit stage left when the burgers finally showed up. The fries were good, but the burgers were only so-so.
The last 35 minutes or so that we were there, my drink was empty and I was not asked once whether I would like something else to drink, despite the place being nearly empty and at least 3 employees walking around cleaning / waiting tables. It was us and two other couples. The waitress didn't even bother to apologize for the delay when she came by with the check immediately after we were done, but hey - at least my rum & coke wasn't on the bill! Kinda makes sense considering they seemed to have forgotten its very existence!
What a joke. Abysmal service, horrible wait, and average food.
Apparently "Growler's" is a reference to the stomachs of their customers, which are waiting a veritable eternity for...
Read moreArrived at about 10:05 PM and grabbed one of the last seats at the downstairs bar, closest to the kitchen. Bartender helped me choose a beer (Trainwreck IPA), which was cold and delicious. I ordered some wings at about 10:20 PM. The bar was starting to thin out and I could tell the kitchen, servers and bartender were trying to clean up. Around 10:55 PM I hear one of the cooks in the kitchen yell, "Fire those wings that should have been done a while ago (I paraphrase)." The bartender didn't hear, he was busy putting away the fruit tray and cleaning. A minute later he drops the check in front of me and says he can take that whenever I'm ready. I put my payment down and ask him to take the wings off. "Why?" he asked confused. "Because I never received them," I answered. He walked to the kitchen and asked how long it would be, and came back and told me two minutes. I told him they just fired them and it would probably take longer and I just wanted to pay my check. He yelled to the kitchen, from behind the bar, to cancel the wings. He informed me this was not fast food. I nodded, but thought to myself, if only he checked the time on the ticket he might understand. He never gave me a corrected itemized receipt, but I assume a pint of beer is $7.00; at least that's what the non-itemized slip said. The time on the slip was 11:10 PM. This was my first time at Growlers and will...
Read moreIts opened back up, but it is not as good as it was. It was packed, so I was expecting it to be great, especially since it was so good before it closed. I was disappointed, most people were there for appetizers and beer. Which was good, but not great. Especially since the $9 nachos were about the size of a side dish, but the beer was good and well priced and why they didn't get 1 star. For meals, I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and it was dry and flavorless, and their supposed "housemade BBQ sauce" was definitely from a bottle, it was even "squirted" onto the bun. My partner had the fish and chips, which used to be amazing and are now just ok. The hot dog our daughter had fell apart instantly, too greasy and a soggy bun. In fact, everything was too greasy. I was so excited that one of the best places in Gaithersburg finally opened back up and it looks like whoever is in charge had really let it go down hill. I doubt I'll be going again unless I hear they have fixed the place. After the "were back" fades I doubt anyone else will be going back either. Last week we went to Joe's Crab Shack and my bill was the same except we feed 5 people instead of 3 and four people had drinks instead of two. Which would you choose...
