TLDR: Nice park for casual walking, dog-friendly (on leash, must pick up after them), ponds with wildlife (no swimming), sunny playground, picnic pavilions. Also, activity center, water park, mini golf, and a skate park (fees for water park and golf, not sure about the activity center).
A very nice and well manicured park. The grass is mowed and expansive but there are plenty of paved walking paths around. If you're looking for a hike, this is not the place, as all paths are very flat and gradual (nice for casual walking in the outdoors). Dogs are welcome on leash and you must pick up after them.
There is a pond you can walk around which houses turtles, and in the spring and early summer, geese and their goslings, and the occasional duck. There is a retaining pond closer to the road which can have the same creatures present. Entering the water is not allowed but fishing is allowed with a Maryland non-tidal fishing license. There are nice paths around both but the retaining pond has hardly any shade around it.
There is a playground which seems to be a moderate size (I believe it is painted metal and seems in good repair). The only issue is there is no shade over or around the outskirts (parents who will need to stand at the edge to watch younger children will be in the sun).
Pavilions with picnic tables are available for reservation. Otherwise, there is plenty of shade and flat ground to sit on.
Other amenities include the activity center, water park, mini golf course, and skate park. There is a fee for entry to the water park and mini golf but not to the park itself. There are also a few historic structures that you can admire from outside and read about on plaques.
The park can be accessed by car by turning next to the school, or if you live in the adjoining neighborhoods there are a few walking entrances. Parking is free as...
Read moreThe rules in this park are unnecessarily severe. We came here for my children's birthday, what proceeded was a hardship that I do not think at all necessary. First we paid and went in, they checked my very small wallet for so long I decided to pour it all out on the table. I was not fully inside when I realized they did not have the snack bar open, I tried just quickly going back out in order to get food and drinks, I did not bring anything because I remembered last time I came it was such a hassle I opted to buy there, but it was closed, so they tell me "not even a minute after I left the door" that I would have to pay again if I came in, meanwhile my children went in to the water, and while I was being told to order something because they would charge again if I stepped out, the life gard was next to me asking me for all my childrens personal information because they had to help him out of the water, and accusing me of not keeping an eye out for my child, first of all, my child knows how to swim, he is not a small child, so not sure what he was talking about, but none the less I provided his information to this person even though it made me uncomfortable to give this information to a total stranger, because I did not want to ruin my child's birthday, they kick people out all the time for any percieved infraction here, and they take extra joy in doing this to minorities, I have noticed this every time I come. I then decided to order delivery, but they did not allow the drinks, made me take the drinks to my car, and when I came back in they surched my tiny bag again, the only option is the soda machine there for drinks, but it does not take anything but one dollar bills. This is a nightmare without a cause and the people working here enforce the rules with a very bad attitude that makes matters worse. I...
Read moreGreat for families with kids, adults, and anybody who loves going to the park. “The city's oldest building sits in this city park popular for picnics, walking & mini-golf.” I’ve been to this park twice for two Taiwanese Association of America Greater Washington Chapter events. Last year and one this year, so, I can only tell you what I know from attending these events at the park. It’s a beautiful park with a large activity center, the main building, that has two large gymnasium with basketball courts, fitness center, locker rooms, vending machines bathrooms. Outside even has a fishing pond with a little crossing bridge and a walkway around the pond for people to check out the sites and take pictures. I’ve seen some people fishing… There are turtles in the pond also. I’m not sure actually how big this park is cause I’ve only been to two pavilions lol. But I did see it also has a mini golf section and skate skateboard section and waterpark, that I did look at. It also has Barbecue grills, Baseball field, Basketball court, a tennis court. Picnic tables, hiking, Skateboarding area, Slides, Swings and a lot of things for kids, and older kids to enjoy. Enjoy the photos and videos! But it’s a very nice park and has a main building with a little bit of historical information about the park and who it named after...
