Unfortunately, I have to write a bad review due to the customer service I and 25 other patrons experience at this location 4/20/24. I and several Other people traveled from evanston Il to Galena to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was informed weeks in advance and the day of to ensure they were able to accommodate the party. When I and the party arrived we were met by the owner who appeared disgruntle. As we were getting seated the owner stated, “ Yall cannot take up the whole restaurant.” As we were getting situated there was a purse left on an unoccupied table in attempt to reserve it. When the owner noticed it she instructed use to move it. She was informed by an individual in the party that we would be occupying the table and she responded . “ I won’t be spoken to that way and you can leave.” When the party tried to figure out what was going on she was very abrasive and flustered. I would be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt but a party of ten came in directly after and was met with respect. The restaurant came highly recommended and my aunt has been a frequent patron for 18 plus years. She attempted to introduce it to her family and was embarrassed.
I would hope the owner understands she impacted a party of 25 due to circumstances that were not congruent with our visit .
Campeche easily accommodated us with respect right before dinner. Please...
Read moreMy husband and I took a trip to Galena, IL and went to Durty Gurts for lunch. It was our first time in that area and at this restaurant. There was only one other couple eating in the restaurant and no music playing making it a slightly awkward atmosphere. The food was pretty good, fries were good and burgers are definitely worth the money. During our lunch, the waitresses and other boy (mid-20s) on staff were hanging by the bar area discussing politics and bashing the president with misinformed information. It was very unprofessional for the staff to just be hanging out and discussing such topics especially because that's all you could hear. While they're entitled to their opinion they should keep it to themselves or talk in the back. We read reviews about the shakes and they were highly rated, so we ordered a $6 "super" shake to go. I can't imagine the size of the "regular" since the "super" was around the size of a small soft drink you would get at a fast food restaurant. The shake was ok but definitely not worth the money. If you want a good burger I would recommend it, but maybe take it to go unless you want to feel like you're listening to CNN while...
Read moreYes, the decor is quite amusing - starting with the three toilets greeting you at the entrance and single toilet just inside. But there is something very pre-fab (like Disney World) about all the signs and printed wallpaper. We laughed at the amusing signs and Gurt's toothless grin, but it felt faux. What really surprised me was the bare bones, boring and sterile ladies room. I have been to many restaurants that have some decorations in their bathrooms - but to find absolutely NOTHING in a place that seems to pride itself on over-the-top zaniness was just odd.
The hamburgers were huge and quite tasty, but what really set this restaurant apart were their seasoned fries and sweet potato fries - hands down the BEST we have ever eaten anywhere! The 20-ounce mango milkshake was not a milkshake - it was melted ice cream in a huge glass! Our waitress was friendly, although not the most competent or attentive. She never came back to ask us how things were or give us more water. We had to ask the unfriendly hostess for take out containers. For Galena, the prices were fair - overall an enjoyable experience, but nothing to...
