We've eaten at the Sushi Village in Birmingham several times and really love it, especially for the price. This was our first time visiting the Gardendale location, and we ordered to go. We got a tempura roll and crab angels. The crab angels were as good as to be expected, and generous at six decent-sized pieces for $5. The tempura roll was served in a big pile with a ridiculous amount of spicy sauce. The ginger and wasabi was mixed in to the mush of sushi and sauce, as was the plastic grass that is usually used to separate those things on the tray. It was served like this; it didn't happen on the drive home.
We also got a salad, which was tiny, $5, and packed in a bag on top of the very hot tempura roll and crab angels, so it was very warm after a 6 minute drive.
We ordered online, and were provided no estimate for when our food would be ready, so I left right away. On arrival, I was told the order would be ready in 10 minutes. I waited about 30 minutes before my order was called out. The establishment was decidedly unbusy, and I was given no explanation or apology...
Read moreOrdered online early since I was coming in during my lunch break from work. My husband was joining me for lunch. I have ordered this way before. When we got there, they made a mistake and packed our food up to go. When they discovered we were dining in, the waitress, Anna, got very angry and slammed our bag of food on our table, then slammed napkins on the table...no plates, no apology. We were embarrassed and LIVID. To make it worse, she kept glaring angry looks at me from behind the counter! I asked her if there was a problem...she never answered! A nice man tried to smooth things over, but she was being rude. She never checked on us, never refilled my water...NOTHING. ZERO SERVICE. I work in Gardendale and frequented this restaurant, but I will NEVER be back. I have never been treated so rudely in a restaurant. Anna...no excuse for this behavior!!! This is so sad, because I loved their food. They have lost...
Read moreStopped by for dinner on a whim on the 4th of July when most everywhere else was closed. I must say everything was super hot, fresh and very flavorful. We started with crab Rangoon, it was fresh out of the fryer, just how we like it and to our surprise, they actually had many pieces of crab meat you could see! They were folded in triangles instead of the normal way so very good! I feel like you got a better bite because it wasn't all wonton wrapper. We both had different versions of the Lomein (shrimp and veggie) and it was also piping hot and well seasoned, it was also enough for us to take home for lunch the next day and reheated fabulously. We shared a sushi roll, I don't remember which one but it was also very good. As long as it stays super hot, fresh and flavorful, we will be regulars.
I took off 1 star because of the ambiance. I felt like I was in a diner and that was a bit...
