Been hearing about this place from friend's in Dallas and finally got to try it. Everything we had was awesome! This was a real chicken dinner experience although we arrived for lunch just about as soon as they opened. The feeling of excitement couldn't be contained as the server reached our table. Let's say we like to eat and being here was a real treat since we are from Austin. We were ready for everything! Unaware that there were no menus, we asked our waitress for some and she replied, "I'm your menu." How cool is that? We were there to try the fried chicken, but wanted to know what the restaurant favorites were. Of course it was the fried chicken, but she also suggested the chicken fried steak. There were 5 of us and everyone either ordered the fried chicken or the chicken fried steak. Although we wanted to try the other entrees, no one wanted to change their order. We were all fine with it though because we knew we weren't going to be disappointed. The sides we didn't have to order because they just bring everything out and all vegetables dishes are free refills. This place gets straight to the point and it just gets better. Shortly after we got our drinks, the salad came out. It was simple with a light vinegrette, but good. The second dish to our table was the buttermilk biscuits. The biscuits were quite impressive. They were warm and soft inside with a biscuitty outer texture. A little bit of butter and honey on top just made it that much harder to stop eating. It wasn't much longer until we had the main dishes and sides in front of us. It was beautiful. Battered chicken fried to perfection, chicken fried steak begging to be covered in gravy, mashed potatoes, grandma's corn, and green beans. Wow! Everything here is made from scratch as I was told and every bite told me that there's no disputing that. This meal was beyond satisfying. After stuffing our faces, we couldn't resist ordering dessert. Needless to say there wasn't a whole lot of room left in our bellies, but we gave it a good go with an order of the banana pudding. It was an excellent choice. Not too heavy and not too sweet with balanced textures. We even got one togo. I can honestly say, there wasn't anything at our table that I wouldn't gladly have again on the next visit. Babe's, you have some new fans. We'll definitely be back. The service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was fun and inviting, and the food! The food... Let's just say the food...

My fiancé enjoyed Babe’s like my brother and I did last year. The only negative things I have to say is that it was warm the evening we had dinner. The restaurant was fairly full and AC couldn’t keep up cooling the restaurant down well enough. It was probably about 80 degrees while we were eating at 6 pm on Friday, June 21.
October 2018: Omg.... I’ve known about Babe’s for years and finally went to eat there for lunch with my brother. I’m stuffed. Kristen, the server, was super nice, friendly, and attentive.
The food is served family style. You choose a protein and get numerous sides with your meal. We got the fried chicken and chicken fried steak. The fried chicken was the bee’s knees. My brother ate the fried chicken breast and he really enjoyed it. He typically eats dark meat and said the chicken breast was flavorful and juicy. I tried the chicken fried steak and it was ok. The texture was good and crunchy, but it was way, way too salty. I thought I was eating spoonfuls of salt. The biscuits were light and fluffy. I added butter and honey to them and I was in biscuit heaven. Yum!!! The sides (corn, green beans, beans) were pretty tasty. The corn was the best of the three. It was buttery and a tad creamy. I’ll pass on the salad that was included. It’s called simple salad, because it’s just dressing and iceberg lettuce. I’m not a big fan of iceberg lettuce. It’s flavorless and just blah in my opinion. We also ended lunch with the pineapple upside down cake. It was so moist and delicious. I would eat a whole cake if I could. Lol
This restaurant is definitely a homey, family style place. Bring your appetite and your easy pants if you...
Read moreI went the other day and had the chicken tenders, my buddy had the chicken fried steak. And the sides were tops. Our waitress was super nice I want to say her name was Laurie, Laura, I can’t remember exactly, but if you go ask for her. She was on top of everything.
The environment was fun and pretty chill. I liked the music, if you like oldies (I do), or country, you’ll dig it.
The managers just seemed smug and off putting.
Prices are NOT low, actually they are a little high for my liking. About $22/person.
If you’re on a budget, don’t go. If you’re a cheapskate don’t go, if you’re not going to tip, don’t go, if you think 10% - 15% is “a good tip”, again don’t go. These people are good at what they do.
If you want to take your leftover veggies home bring your own tupperware, apparently it’s against “policy” to take YOUR own food home for leftovers, and your waiter/waitress will get in trouble for providing one. They have these weird little baggies hanging on the wall for your meats you didn’t eat (Because I want to take home something covered in gravy in a little bag), that’s dumb.
The meats are Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken, Smoked Chicken, Chicken Tenders, and Catfish.
The vegetables are Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Corn, a Vegetable Of The Day, and you get a very basic salad with this sweet vinegary dressing (you can order it dry and bring your own dressing from home)
It’s served FAMILY STYLE.
For those of you that may lack skills of understanding, what that means is they place the meat you choose on ONE PLATE, all the fried chicken one plate, all the tenders on one plate, etc. then they bring out all the vegetables for you and your family to share. No need for “What?”, “Who”, “I don’t understand”, it’s a...
