October 30, 2024 update My family surprised me with a return trip to the bluefin where we were served by Chef Brian and owner Reno. I ordered the Emperor plate and it was the most delicious assortment of lobster steak, chicken vegetables, noodles, and rice that you would ever have in any restaurant.
Chef Brian is one of the most outstanding entertainment chefs that I’ve ever met. His personality, humor, and ability to constantly make us laugh and enjoy what’s going on made my personal celebration a very special one.
The food and my favorite the sake bomb was outstanding. This year with Reno’s instruction, I was able to finally figure out how to do a sake bomb and Boyd. Did it explode if you’ve never experienced anything like this you must try at least once the beer and drink, and I will never forget this experience because in November we’re coming back for another celebration and I am going to get another soccer bomb the animation that Chef Brian used to keep us entertain with the simple silly corny. Chokes were the best.
Seriously for the price of the food that you receive is well worth what you pay for generous portions delicious flavors. I love the Yum Yum sauce and the ginger sauce, but my heart went out to the sake.
Brian, I wish you many many many years at this wonderful establishment. I know you’ve been around the country and had many experiences but you are a Jim and Howell and I hope the Howell community and anyone else can support this wonderful location. It is an absolute delight and I am coming again, thank you Reno and thank you Brian for one of my happiest days. I am so grateful.
Sitting in the middle of a tornado warning I’d like to share my experience at the blue Fin in Howell. The tornado is only a few miles away and now gone.
Dany , our waiter and Vendi, our chef were outstanding. Vendi’s skill and humor surpassed other Japanese Hibachi restaurants in this part of MICHIGAN. My scallops, shrimp and lobster was absolutely delicious. The flavoring of the foods were natural and not over spiced like other similar establishments. Dany was attentive to help my wife and I celebrate our wedding anniversary with the cutest blow up hats that added to our festivities. Vendi’s personality, skill as a true chef and thoughtfulness added to our families fun. The fried rice, noodles, seafood and steaks were spot on in deliciousness and the price was comparable to other like places. This Howell location is shear excellent. You will not go wrong eating here! A dining pleasure! Now back to watching the weather this early morning!
November 24 update Reno did a great job serving our family for my wife’s birthday party of 12. Brian put on his best show that I have ever seen him do and the grandkids agreed that this was the best show with his sense of humor that made this such a wonderful occasion For my wife and our family. It’s really sad when Brian walks in and remembers me from last month. I apologize to him many times for remembering me. This was the best sake bomb that I ever was able to do with this restaurant. It went flawless and it impressed my grandkids so much that they also wanted their own sake moms of course it was nonalcoholic, and they were pretending slamming on the table, but I impressed them with my skill with Asake bomb. The food was exceptional cooked so well and delicious this out ranks, any other Japanese steakhouse restaurant by far.
On your bucket list, this is definitely a place to try.
Blue Phine plans on opening a new place in hartland. Since Brian lives in the area, he might end up working there so I’m gonna keep my eyes open so if he moves there, I might have a new dinner spot. 10 stars not five...
Read moreI give 2 stars because the food was good and comped a round of drinks.
I'd like to say first off I have been a frequent customer and lover of Blue Fin for YEARS. I moved away a couple of years back but, any time in town I would stop by and at least get take out. Word of mouth travels and would ALWAYS suggest Blue Fin..... can NO longer say that after tonight's experience.
Moving a little forward ... I called 2 weeks back for take out on a Monday (when in town) found out they were no longer open on Monday's but, answered the phone. NEW OWNERS.
Present time ..... Ok... so tonight July 6th, 2018. We arrived @6 pm, party of 2. Accompanied by 2 other couple's at our Habetchi table. We order our drinks and then dinners. Everything went well with soup, salad and a couple round of drinks... our cook arrived and during the prep, the waitress (god bless her heart, come to find out but, also assumed she was new (she was really young)).. broke beer bottles all over the floor spraying shardes of glass at and under ALL 3 couples , 6 ppls feet. We moved from our seats and helped sweep up the mess (during our dinner). We still and always remained calm throughout the "experience". When the waitress returned, she dumped my boyfriend's drink down his arm and then spilt mine on the table. The main waitress, her trainer, a wonderful waitress who had waited on our family (of 6) in the past, brought us new cloth napkins. She explained the waitress was new and training.. ALWAYS respectful of deserving waitstaff, I explained how understanding we were.
Moving forward to dinner... our cook did some wand tossing , my boyfriend and I bought some carrots with our mouths then dinner fell flat then on... keep in mind we are all amongst strangers.. fine.. we came separate but, by the end of the experience, (past Blue Fin guests) we came together and ALL agreed it was a HALF way decent dinner with the HALF size portions and FULL prices and absolutely NO show or experience, come to find out, for what us dedicated and original Blue Fin lovers were expecting. We were disappointed to say the least.
I'd like to note , during "dinner".. we all did our side chat questioning portions .. thinking somehow, some way it was considered lunch?! NOPE... after a 75$ bill WITH a round, 8$ in all taken off (drinks spilt) and not including a 30%tip... we will kindly decline going back.. sooooooooooo disappointed to say the least.
I am not one for confrontation or being considered "cheap".. I choose to call instead of making a scene and it went to voicemail saying mailbox was full.. how does one even make a take out order or call ahead or even talk to management?!?!
Also... with the side chatter from us.. the ONLY table there.. we over heard wait staff saying all the original cooks, Chefs moved on to Sagano's.. guess our next adventure WILL be with them to get the bang and thrill for our buck.
I will always promote the mom and pop.. give at least a chance or 2 but after tonight.. I am sadly putting Blue Fin to rest... best if luck to everyone. THIS is our experience and has obviously reinstated enough to leave such a ridiculouslylong review but, I feel it is time worth spent if it saves ppl true hard earned money AND a poopy family experience ...
Best of luck and wishes to all...
Read moreWent there in May, was pretty good. Went there tonight for my boyfriend's birthday, he picked the place out two weeks ago because that's what sounded good to him, so that's when I made the reservation, two weeks ago for today at 6:30pm. We arrived at 6:25, and told the hostess we had a reservation for 6:30. She said okay I'll get you seated as soon as possible. There was a group of about 11 or 12 that got in right in front of us and were seated at the Hibachi where we were supposed to be eating as well. 20 minutes go by and no table, not even starting us on drinks. My boyfriend's mom asked if the table would be ready soon and the hostess said yes about 15 minutes, we were frustrated because we had already waited a long time after our reservation was scheduled for. Then its about 7:10 and still no table. My boyfriend's parents asked yet again and the hostess pretended she didn't hear us twice. Then finally the hostess informed us that it would be 10 more minutes even though she said it'd be 15 mins over 20 minutes ago. We then asked to speak to a manager and they were very hesitant saying there was no manager. Finally they got the owner and we spoke to him and he explained to us that there was only one chef on staff (eventhough there were three reservations booked at the same time, because that makes sense, NOT) and that the reservation with 12 people right in front of us booked their reservation late and showed up to their reservation late. Why is that our fault though? Why should we be punished for them showing up late and us showing up on time for something special that I booked two weeks ago? Why even have reservations if you will not honor them? (We did in fact ask the owner this). My recommendation to anyone is to make the reservation an hour before you actually want to eat and not show up til then because you won't be sitting down til then anyways. Also, after we left and decided this was ridiculous, you would think the someone would have offered a free appetizer or a reschedule for a guaranteed time or something but no. Got ready really fast after work and drove there for nothing. Really disappointed and...
