My family was visiting out of Country and we decided to visit Brix and Ale for dinner Valentine’s Day. This was our very first time. We had reservations for 5:30 PM for 5 of us. The host at the front desk was lovely and asked her colleague to take us to a table. Upon arriving at the table, we were told that it wasn’t our table. We stood there for 5 mins as staff tried to figure things out. They brought us to a different table of 4 and added a chair to that table in front of us to seat us all. That was the very beginning of a bad evening. My parents ordered wine and beer and we had to ask for a glass for beer. Service was slow, the restaurant was busy because of Valentine’s Day. Staff seemed frazzled, unprepared and they may have been understaffed for the night. We placed our order: 2 burgers and 3 orders of “catch of the day”, which happened to be trout ($30). 35 minutes later and still no food. Our waiter finally came by to let us know that “food was being prepared and should be out soon”. Another 15 mins go by, and another staff member in a suit came by and stated that they had personally checked on our food and that “it should be out in 5 mins”. After another 10 mins, when a waiter came by to fill our glasses with water, we asked for an ETA on our food and she said that she would check. After waiting for more than hour, our food came. The burgers were not that bad but what a disappointing plate of trout. A very sad and tiny piece of fish over 5 pieces of carrots topped with some berries. It was supposedly an entree - the bottom of the barrel looking portion of thin fish. It was plated on a dinner plate, which was embarrassing, and if I call it an appetizer, I would be stretching it. It didn’t come with potatoes or rice or more than 5 tiny pieces of carrots. It looked as if they rushed to plate it and forgot to add the sides. All that for $30 of 5 bites of dinner. Extremely disappointing and not even tasty. Staff were polite and courteous. They kept apologizing for the wait but the words seemed hollow as there was no action. No complimentary app or bread to make up for all that time or making us wait all that time. Others who came after us had food on their table. We did order from their regular menu instead of the special VD menu but I don’t think customers should be penalized for that. We got out there after a quick bite and grabbed some burgers from another place as we did not feel we had anything to eat. Truly disappointing experience. I would not recommend coming to this restaurant to eat. And not just because of the slow service on a busy Valentine’s Day night but the quality, quantity and taste of food is simply not worth the price. I hope the management...

Read moreMy family traveled 3.5 hours to spend Thanksgiving day with my 90 yr old mother (who lives in a senior living property in Georgetown, TX) and take her out to eat. I chose Brix and Ale the on site restaurant located at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center who was featuring a Thanksgiving brunch/buffet . When this property first opened in 2017 my mom and I ate at Brix and Ale a few times ( the outdoor area is great ) and the food was really good so I assumed the $47 per person Thanksgiving buffet would offer similar "Chef Inspired" spread.
When we arrived at our 3:30 pm reservation time, Brix and Ale offered us a Thanksgiving buffet that was absolutely the most substandard food ( based on the cost ) that I have experienced in a restaurant setting.
Breakfast/brunch selections were still available. Tired looking scrambled eggs, a few slices of bacon in a chafing dish as well a some " air dried" breakfast pastries displayed on an open rack. Another section with two salad selections ,which thankfully, were at least fresh, along with 3 or 4 premade/prepackaged desserts . though the bread pudding looked like it could have possibly been created on site. The "Thanksgiving" buffet food was what a hospital would offer a patient. Yes, the quality was that substandard. A chafing dish containing a chopped, "al dente," unseasoned carrot and potato combination, another with faux mashed potatoes topped with melted cheese, next dish held what was supposed to be cornbread dressing, but resembled a soupy cornmeal mush, obviously canned sweet potatoes dumped in the chafing dish topped with a few marshmallows, preformed "turkey" triangles bathing in "gravy", a dish of super sweet ham squares, and lastly a pan of that mornings hard biscuits.
"I was shocked" would be an understatement! At that point what was our, (with my 90 yr old mother in tow) alternative? It's late Thanksgiving afternoon ... Absolutely the worst $47 per person dining...
