Cap'n D's has long been one of our family's favorite eat-outs for seafood. However, what happened there Friday 8/11 and Saturday 8/12 makes it doubtful we will EVER visit this location again. We checked online before we came Friday 8/11 and the hours listed the restaurant open until 11 pm. However, when we arrived there shortly after 9 pm, we found the lobby door locked even though we could see the lobby and restaurant fully lit up and people inside. A man came to the door who identified himself as manager, and told us they normally close the lobby at 9 pm, but drive-through is open till 11. When we told him we'd driven from another town 30 minutes away to come there, he seemed surprised and asked why we would do so, when other Captain D's were closer to us. We told him how we'd always found his restaurant to be the best and considered it worth the drive. He was shocked but pleased and asked us to come back the next night, repeating that the restaurant is open for eat-in dining until 9 pm. We did so--arriving on Saturday August 12 at about 8:10 pm. As we came in the door, the young lady at the counter -- who didn't even say, "Hello" or "Welcome to Captain D's" or any sort of welcome, instead greeted us (loudly) with "THAT DOOR WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN LOCKED! I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WAS OPEN!" The three of us stopped in shock, and I said, "Your manager told us last night that the lobby is open until 9 pm; we came too late last night but he told us that we could come again before 9 pm and be welcome to eat inside." She heaved a huge sigh, then said, "Look. We only have TWO PEOPLE HERE (she was that loud) and we can't serve you." I pointed out that no one else was in the lobby waiting and there were only two cars in the drive-through, and we didn't mind if we had to wait a while. But, I explained again, we drove 30 minutes to get here and your manager told us we could eat inside if we arrived prior to 9 pm. At this point the young lady went ballistic. She threw her arms into the air, then shouted, "THAT'S IT! I CAN'T HANDLE THIS! I QUIT!!!!" and turned and marched off into the kitchen. I could see the cook / drive-through employee through the window into the kitchen watching all this, and his mouth literally fell open when she had her tantrum and then turned and marched off. Our family ended up eating at Red Lobster down the road. Captain D's--are you TRYING to go out of business? If so, you're going about it...
Read moreUpdated review (Oct 2022): very disappointed!! Wife ordered shrimp, broccoli, baked potato..shrimp was cold, broccoli was cold. I ordered fish, green beans, baked potato. Some of the green beans were very cold inside. Wife asked for new shrimp, they reheated it and reheated broccoli but the shrimp was not edible. Lead/manager (Kai) would not give a refund and had a nasty/ negative attitude.
Suggestion: be very careful of your food order and ensure it has appropriate temperatures!
Perhaps choose another place like we will for fish (we may try again in a few months).
Sad as we have been coming to this captain Ds for many many years.
Updated review (aug 2022): under new ownership. Menu is mostly the same as before. Staff is friendly and mostly new people. Service is a little slower than before. Prices are mostly similar. Food is still tasty. They keep saying, for weeks, they have senior combo (on wed and sun) but they do not. Someone posting as owner replies back saying they do, but they do not or the staff including managers do not know of any senior promotions.
original review (before 2022): The food is good. Service is usually very quick. Prices are reasonable. We visit this location about 4 times a month. Drive thru orders are checked for correctness before...
Read moreTo Daisy and her friend I wish I could remember your name I'm sorry about that but I will never forget how you made me feel: I have never had a customer service experience as great as this one. I came to this drive thru with my 3 year old son and we are struggling just as everyone else is right now and I ordered only a 1 piece fish but....somehow you knew... my card declined and my heart was heavy but you offered to pay. actually you kept insisting on paying. you knew It was for my son. You knew I also was hungry but without me saying a word. You gave us enough food for both of us. Words could not describe the feelings i felt. I'm a man and we tough it up we don't cry even so, Im sorry I pulled away quickly I had the tears in my eyes and couldn't speak. Unable to tell you how grateful I was for your compassion and kindness. May you guys be blessed and granted incredible success. May the mightiest one who holds all power grant you ease throughout you life. may he lift your burdens and may he multiply your rewards and grant the both of you immeasurable happiness in this life and the one to come.
