Wow. Great consistently and quality.
Feelings run strong when people talk about barbecue. Some people want subtle smoke, others want a campfire in their mouth. Some people want to dry rub, others want slathered in sauce. This place creates loyal fanatics.
Here's a great little story of our visit with our daughter.
She complained on the way over that someone (who shall remain nameless) told her that it smelled smoky. So, she complained all the way there. When we walked in the door, she proclaimed, "This place smells (and her face lit up with a big smile) LIKE BACON!"
When our food arrived she dug into her chicken but wasn't eating her coleslaw. So I pretended to take it from her. She gave me an indignant look and took it back and took a little bite. Then she looked at it and took another bite. The she picked up the bowl and dug in until she eventually turned the empty bowl on her face to get the last bits.
My wife won't let me turn the bowl onto my face but it is tempting. I love the beef ribs when they're available. When they aren't, I'm partial to the chopped brisket. Or ribs. I'll eat the rest of the kids chicken if my wife isn't looking.
I love the coleslaw too. And the sweet potatoes with kale. The black eyed peas with rosemary work for me too. My wife and kids think that the mac n cheese is amazing.
In the south, bbq is more than food, and this is one of our favorites. We eat there as often as we can and use them for....
Read moreToday I visited community Q in Decatur. I enjoyed this restaurant. It was lively, at 130pm it was about 80% full. Groups of Families were raucous in displaying their enjoyment of the food and atmosphere. As we entered, the line moved quickly, I ordered St Louis style ribs with potato salad & mac & cheese & a side of extra Mac & cheese to go for wifey. (Shes the Mac & cheese expert in our family) Don't come to this restaurant for the decor or fancy smancy. This is a down home, come as you are place, that serves great food, at a very reasonable price. $$$ The food came quickly. I always dive into the sides first. The Potato Salad was a solid 7 of 10. (more seasonings pls) The Mac & Cheese was a 6 of 10. It was more cream based than cheesey. (Wifey says more salt & pepper pls) I definitely agree with her. The sausage was excellent 10 of 10. I would go back for that alone. The ribs were excellent, tender, falling off the bone. Well seasoned even without sauce, 10 of 10. The service at the restaurant is excellent. Take out is available. I have one major suggestion, As a couple with severe allergies, I hope ownership works on the ventilation soon, the cooking smoke smell permeated the entire resturant! I will definitely return but will definitely ask for the...
Read moreAn Atlanta BBQ institution. Great all-around BBQ restaurant in North Decatur that has been around forever. Every meat I've had is very good and they also have some interesting additions like smoked chicken salad. Likewise all the side items are delicious and in addition to all the staples they have some unique things such as sweet potato and kale. They have 2 sauces, one a more traditional sauce with some sweetness as well as a vinegar sauce with a very slight kick. Both are good.
Service is mostly typical counter service but the staff does bring food out to the table for dine in customers and is generally friendly and accommodating.
The only negatives I can give them are the somewhat limited hours, and the fact that they sometimes run out of things but that is the nature of good BBQ. This place has been open for many years and I've been here plenty. I've never been disappointed except when I am craving it for dinner and realize they're already closed.
Oh, one note of warning...it seems that the nearby Miss Icey's does a Sunday Brunch that can make parking challenging so be ready for that. In general the lot is not big enough for all the restaurants in this strip but the only times I've really had an issue with parking has...
