I learned about and selected this restaurant a couple of months ago as a result of a corporate purchase and returned, primarily to support what is touted as a Black-owned small business. I opted to pick-up my Uber order. Upon arrival, I was told that my meal was only partially prepared because I owed more money. I was accused of erroneously ordering a veggie plate with macaroni as one of the selections.
Particularly in Caribbean and soul food restaurants, it is standard practice for veggie plates to be comprised of 2-3 sides--including starches like mac and cheese. Via the app, there is no option to select from a list. You can only type your preference via a text box. A veggie plate is $8.49. Via the app, 9 of 11 side item are priced at $4.99--including the mac and cheese. 'Ziggy' Gordon is the restaurant owner and was willing to prepare 3 side items, but wanted an extra $6 for the mac and cheese alone. His excuse was that his store menu is preset by Uber and customers are supposed to intuitively know that mac & cheese is extra if you're ordering a veggie plate. Meanwhile, the mac and cheese is priced the same as yams and greens, which is what I ordered. As the customer, it's not my job to make sense of Gordon's dealings with Uber. I can only order what's available as it's available. Regardless, the power was in Gordon's hands to rectify the situation amicably because whether I ordered via Uber or came in person, business is being driven to his doorstep by referral.
Instead of saying hey, the price/menu is wrong. However, I can offer you 2 sides for the same price, Gordon proceeded to substitute mac and cheese for peas and rice. The fact that he was willing to give me 3 sides was telling. It wasn't the number of sides or the error in price between the app and in store, Gordon simply wanted $6 extra dollars just for the mac & cheese. Never mind that part of my order included 5 wings for $10. It was more important for Gordon to get his coins than to extend goodwill to a returning customer and resolve pricing and menu issues with Uber offline. Canceling the order escalated the situation with Gordon refusing to show me the receipt he would've stapled to the to-go bag if the order was completed. He couldn't prove that what I did was wrong. He simply blamed me as if I created the menu on Uber.
Thankfully, Gordon Spice is not the only Caribbean restaurant in the area. C&R Caribbean Jerk, Aunty Vannie Fish Pot, Kingston's Caribbean Restaurant and International Roti House provide good food and service for fair prices. If you have veggie plate cravings, This Is It won't charge you $6 to select mac and cheese and neither will Anna's BBQ.

Read moreI visited this restaurant on Tuesday after my daughter called me to say she urbered the chicken soup and it was very good. It was a rainy 7pm and as I entered I said hello and smiled as I viewed the memo. I barely heard a response. I ordered the chicken soup and as I asked to see the size of the large I noticed the young lady had an awful attitude. I then asked about the rum cake and she appeared annoyed and a kind mature woman approached the windo from the kitchem to answer my question so I ordered the rum cake. The young lady completed my order and when I could not get the electronic signature to appear she reached over and angrily instructed me to tap harder. I eventually got it but not without now being a bit unimpressed with her behavior. The place was empty and she was more interested in using her cellphone then doing her job. Her behavior was unacceptable and although I have passed this establishment in my travels for more about 20 years I never felt compelled to go in. Yes I was disappointed and stepped completely away from the counter until my order came. When I took my package I thanked her and she could see I was not the same thrilled customer when I left. But I must say although a bit spicy the chicken was delicious. Now the rum cake taste was ok but the portion was minuscule for $5. Shame on them for my Tuesday order. It is hard to believe they are still in business with such lousy customer service - it had to be...
Read moreJust got my order from Grub Hub, I did not go in. This was my 1st time and I was very disappointed. I usually go to Willeys on covington hwy or eat right on covington , or Tropics in Lithonia. Those 3 never fail. This place Mac n cheese is not worth the price $7.99 with out any option for the size as a side. It was very dry, no taste really and did not move when I put the fork in it, . The greens are not worth the price for a side: They were only blanched an had a hot seasoning an were very tough also $7.99 with out any size option. The portion of the large jerk chichen was good for the price, but it was dry, barely tatsed like jerk an the rice was very dry an hard no peas at all were in my rice. My plate said it would have cabbage an pease, it had a pasta, that was not good to me at all. It was bland an had 2 green peas an the sauce was not good. The beef patti had barely any beef in it. The taste did not taste jamaican at all, it was like some hanbuger meat in bread. Will not be going back...
