We decided to visit the new IHOP off Hwy 92 located in the old Shoney's store. We're not strangers to visiting brand new restaurants, so we went in with appropriate expectations. We were not disappointed.
The interior of the restaurant is...unusual...for an IHOP. No carpeting at all, booths along the walls, tables all in the middle, hard surfaces everywhere, no ceiling. It reminded me of a brewery or other "mom & pop" place; not an established branded restaurant. All of the hard surfaces means sound echos and the place isn't super quiet.
We arrived around 4'ish and there were maybe 4 other sets of patrons already seated. We were seated quickly by a friendly gentleman named Anthony. A good while later (10-15 min?), he came back and apologized for the delay in taking our orders. Apparently, there was a mixup with who was working our table. He took our drink and meal orders simultaneously. He also warned us that the 2nd shift cook wasn't "as experienced", so the meal might take a few minutes longer to receive. No problem.
As advertised, the meal came in about 20-30 minutes. It was as ordered, hot, well-prepared, and very tasty. The only problem is that Anthony had forgotten to even get us our drinks. Nor did he bring them with the meal. :) When we pointed this out to him, he was taken aback and apologized profusely. He immediately got the drinks and apologized again. We ate our meal without issue and enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, we didn't see Anthony again for the remainder of the meal. He and some of the other servers were seen occasionally cleaning or helping other patrons, but not frequently and not once did someone check on us during the meal.
I actually had to flag him down to get the check. He delivered it promptly, then zipped off to the back to do......whatever. I didn't know if I was supposed to pay him or at the front counter, so we waited for someone to ask. For 10 minutes. Yes. There was literally a period of 10 minutes where there was not a single employee on the floor.
Finally, we flagged someone down and she said she'd get Anthony for us. Just then, he came around and picked up my card and closed out the visit.
In summary, the food was great, the atmosphere was...different, and the service was very friendly, but not good. To be fair, this is a new restaurant location and there will be growing pains. We went in mostly expecting there to be hiccups and weren't disappointed. We weren't angry, since we knew what we were getting into.
Bottom line: the store is worth visiting, but temper your expectations and be prepared to...
Read moreWent for Mother’s Day brunch and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in a while. They told us it would be a 20 to 25 minute wait for the table which we were happy to wait… It was Mother’s Day and we were prepared for it. After about 35 minutes, my husband want to check on the table and he saw several names that were crossed off that were added to the list after ours. The young lady asked him if we had been waiting at least 25 minutes and he said yes, she said OK I’ll seat you next. They sat us at a booth at the front of the restaurant, and when the did, winner a huge wet mess on the booth seat. We asked her if we could get that cleaned up…she said yes, and grabs a towel and wipes it down, but doesn’t dry it so the booth was still really wet. My husband just sat in it anyway. We ordered the appetizer sampler as well as our meals at the same time. Then, we waited. And waited. And waited. After about 30 minutes, we asked our server if the sampler would be out soon. He said yes. It was 10/15 more minutes before he actually brought it. The sampler comes with chicken fingers, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks. When he brought it, there were no sauces on the plate. We asked him if it was supposed to come with sauces, he said “yeah, which ones do you want?” We said honey mustard and marinara sauce. I also asked for extra napkins at that time. He leaves and it’s it’s 10 more minutes before he returned with the sauces. No napkins. By that time the mozzarella sticks were cold and almost inedible. We didn’t see him again for a while, so my husband went up to the house to stand to grab extra napkins. Our food came 15 minutes later. Half of it anyway. He didn’t bring my husbands side of eggs or my daughters cinnamon things. It was another 10/15 minutes before he’d bring those. When he did, I asked him for drink refills as we were all only had ice in our cups. He said, of course, but clearly forgot about us. After about another 10 or 15 minutes, I made eye contact with a waitress that was cleaning the table next to ours and asked if she could please get our server because my daughter was in the midst of a coughing fit and really really needed water. She must have found him because he didn’t bring finally come back with the water. It has been a while since we’ve been to IHOP, and the first time at this new location. And while we may visit another IHOP one day… I will never ever ever go back to this particular location....
Read more04/19/24: HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. We wish there were Negative Stars for this review. If you go here after reading this it's Your Own Fault. Our waitress, Sadie, was very nice. Very nice. Sadie is stuck doing What Franchise Owners / Management says. Sadie had an answer for every discrepancy from the kitchen. 65 plus, we read well and this is not our first IHOP. We order the same things each trip. The cook here, "Don't know what he is doing.", made our orders wrong and had to make them over. The Fresh Egg Cheese Omelette, on the menu, Has the option of Shredded Cheese or White Cheese Sauce. My wife chose shredded. The Omelette finally delivered to our table had Neither cheese. The Up charge Gluten Free Pancakes on the menu come as a Set of 3. My wife received 2. My One Crepe, from the menu, arrived with a Small multi sliced strawberry, Tiny blueberries smaller than Lentils. Crepes, per menu, ALWAYS come with a Cream Stuffing and Whipped Cream....Until tonight at This location. Note My Pictures: No Cream Filling and No Whipped Cream. Portion size of Hash Browns Cut as if we would not notice. $3.59 for a want to be soda (Pepsi). No Way. Always Prepared, we brought our own bottled drinks that we buy weekly at (4) 6 packs for $12. We Wasted $20.00 for a Very Wrong, Bad and Unsatisfying Joke of a Meal. Obviously, Franchise / Management here has continued to cut food cost by stealing from customers. What is served us is Less than described on the menu. No Shredded Cheese, 2 Gluten Free Pancakes instead of 3. No Cream Stuffing or Whipped Cream on the Single Crepe. A Multi Sliced Tiny Strawberry. Lentil size Blueberries. Late order to us because it was all a do over in the kitchen. Reduced Portion Hash Browns. But...but, an excuse for everything as if we 65 year olds are stupid. No, We Will Not Give This Location any more money. On the way home We stopped by Chick FIL A and purchased a To Go order. This IHOP is Horrible and if you go here it is Your fault..Look...
