Today I went to M&Jās with my husband, because he and some of our church members go there frequently. Iāve gone a few times with him, and each time we get one plate and weāre done. We donāt sit around- we are in and out quickly. Today we arrived at 5:30PM, and immediately a waitress walked up and said in the rudest tone, āWe close at 6ā. I said ok so we have 25 minutes. She continued telling me that the food would be taken up at 6. I asked my husband if he wanted to stay. He said yes, and she turned as if she was quite annoyed and walked away. Now is it me, or have people forgotten what real customer service looks like. I totally understood what she was saying but it was how it was said. The tone, the body language, the flat out rudeness and to a paying customer. Wait- it got worse! I asked our waitress if she could tell me the womanās name and to tell her I wanted to talk to her.
Fatherās Day officially ruined. I ask her if it was necessary for her to be so rude. She started giving her explanation and walked off. Immediately my waitress stepped in and proceeded to talking loud, saying, āShe was not being rude, and itās Fatherās Day and we want to go home to our families too. At this point it was 5:50, and I couldnāt believe an employee was complaining to me about the issues of her job choice. I told her I didnāt want to hear it, and she walked off and began talking loud to her manager about me being rude and how she was not going to put up with it. By now Iām in shock! Even a third grader would have been able to determine who was being rude.
We quickly finished our meal with no one ever coming back to ask if we needed anything else. After checking out(she was the cashier at this point), I left out and immediately called back to get her name. She answered and told me her name and asked me what was the problem. I spoke about her rudeness. She yelled over me and told me to come back in and say it to her face. Unfortunately my church members eat here. I had to remember that, and fortunately for her, Im not used to engaging in back yard brawls. Again-I was totally shocked to know people who work in a service capacity could speak to customers in such a way. Iām not sure where I will go from here, however my husbandās dinner was ruined, and we both were totally disrespected. Iām not sure if management will stand up this woman. She was quite aggressive, and she really crossed the line by daring me. I consider...

First of all, let me say I really loved the nostalgia of this place, and nearly everything I had was well prepared and well seasoned. The woman who took our money at the register on the way in was delightful and attentive, though it seemed she was also our primary waitress, but perhaps that was intentional. Many of the rest of the staff seemed to be grinding through the motions of a long day, some more jovially than others. Nothing bad, just a sense of weariness on a potentially long day...
The space itself is an older conversion, and while quaint, is showing it age is some respects and could use an opportunity for reinvigoration.
All that said, everything was comfortable and serviceable, though they might want to sort through and discard their chipped drinkware.
The food, however, was nearly thoroughly enjoyable, if somewhat old school in the perfect way of aunties & grandmothers feeding a huge family on a dodgy budget. Simple, well-seasoned, filling, with many freshly prepared vegetables alongside fried chicken, beef tips with gravy, and chicken-n-dumplins.
There's a simple salad bar (I'd love to see a little more going on there) with a number of classic Southern concoctions; potato & egg salad (big thumbs up from our table), Mac salad, etc. And a fruit and dessert table.
Solid Favorites: Fresh Vegetable Medley, Fried Chicken, Whipped Potatoes
Delightful Suprise: Meatloaf
Underperformers: Cornbread Muffins (a little dry and bland), Fried Pork Chop (cooked to within a millimeter of its very existence).
Bottom Line: Would love to see some community money flow into this place with the hope that they can reinvest in themselves and continue to compete in the coming climate with a number of new buffets popping up along 78/Stone...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been here a few times, but this particular time I opted to take out, it was on Thursday, The food is nice and they give you a pretty decent selection, everyone has always been pretty friendly, my only concern is the fact that I have seen people come up to get food without masks!!, that's a serious concern for me because it's a buffet. Yes, you can dine in all you can eat or you can fill up your platters to take out, which is a cool option, but I also think they should mandate wearing plastic gloves when you're handling the spoons, to get your food. And wearing a mask should be a number one priority, a couple people coughed around the area of food, and although, they turned their heads away from the food, it was so gross not to have masks on, to me that was a red alert because food is a very serious topic. You want it to be clean and free from other people's germs. Those two things would be my only complaints concerning this place. Tthere's a few other buffet areas that I have been to, and you have to wear gloves, before you handle any of this food or pick up any of their utensils, and you have to wear masks. I think that's very important! but then again, who am? I that's just my...
