My first visit to Moon Indian Cuisine was about 3 years ago when they first opened. The food and service were good, but nothing outstanding. I brought my husband and ate there once or twice since then with the same impression, but the last time was probably a year ago.
Then my husband and son and I decided to go there for New Year's Eve dinner this year. Our first clue that things had changed was that they had remodeled and opened a hall for catering across from the dining area. We had a choice between their New Year's Eve special menu and their regular menu, which we appreciated. We initially thought we would just order dishes from the regular menu, but everything sounded so good on the special menu that we all opted for that.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, although we had a little trouble understanding one of them in particular. But overall they took our order right away and the ordering process went smoothly. There were a few hiccups with our order, though - they forgot an appetizer, brought one of us the wrong rice dish, and forgot one of the dinners when they brought the others, but they were anxious to please and made sure that we received everything without too much delay.
The best part was the food! They were introducing a new "signature" dish of spinach-stuffed naan, which was heavenly. They had a basmati rice dish that had fruit and nuts in it as well as cardamom and other spices, which was very tasty, although a bit sweet rather than savory only. The chicken kebab appetizer was very tender and moist, and the "pizza samosa" appetizer was intriguing. I was very happy with my entree of mixed vegetables in onion and tomato curry sauce dish, and they were able to make it very mild for me, which I appreciated, as I usually have a hard time getting the food mild enough at most Indian restaurants.
Overall, we were all very happy with the experience and agreed we would go back again soon. Our son also told us he had been to their lunch buffets several times recently and had been very favorably impressed.
Highly recommend!
UPDATE Feb 18, 2020
We have been back to Moon Indian Cuisine many times since my initial review, both for sit-down meals and for take-out, and everything continues to be outstanding, both the food and their service (and no errors with orders, either)....
Read moreA very good family run place. They have odd hours since they eat together from 3pm ish to 5pm so the place is closed then. The noon day buffet runs from morning to about 2pm, daily it seems. It is about the price of one dish normally, 16 usd.
I like the lamb vindaloo, extra spicy. Most americans would be advised to take a mild or lesser form of the spice level and go with the more conventional taste of tikkala masala. I can eat the bomb hot sauces with only minor digestion issues so mild is not for me. Be cautious of asking for extra spicy if you cannot eat ghost peppers naturally. For me the extra spicy vindaloo is more like slightly spicy for me and the medium spice is like very mild to me. I might just bring my own hot sauces, which are dangerous for others to use like mad dog reserve. Sri racha might go very well with some dishes.
Indian spices are based on turmeric hence the color is yellow not red. They do not use ghost peppers or chinese numbing peppers commonly.
The naan bread is very good. Turmeric is good for anti inflammation and digestion.
The desserts are also nice. I like sweet things and they are easy to digest non diary and no food colorations.
The ambience vibe of the place is relatively quiet. With earphones or buds it creates a bubble space. During the buffet it was around 55% to 75% filled. People did not stay long. I went once on the weekend after 5 pm and it was relatively not busy. In terms of energy, it is healthy and i did not detect any negative disharmony. It is not high energy more like a monastery feel.
The staff have a minor accent and speak quietly so ask for repetition if needed.
Most of the dishes uses lamb, seafood, chicken, beef interchangeably.
According to ayurvedic diet recommendations, certain foods do not go together well. Drink room temperature water, not ice water, and use spices to help digestion. Meat and milk for example are difficult to digest together especially with cold...
Read moreToday I went there for a lunch buffet. The male manager was extremely rude, making this the worst restaurant experience in my whole life. I will never go there any more!
First I had some pieces of bread and tasted some vegetable and rice dishes, and had a few pieces of goat bones, and then wanted a little bit more goat meats. But the plate of goat meats was empty, so I asked the male manager if they had more coming. He said yes but need wait for 10-15 minutes. I said OK and went back to my table and was ready to go because I didn't have time to wait. And then he came to my table and told me: "if you eat only goat, we will charge you more because goat is more expensive", which made me really unhappy.
The reasons are: I didn't eat only goat. I mainly ate bread and rice. He came to me just because I asked him about goat. He didn't say that to anyone else in the restaurant, or said at the beginning, and there is no sign or notes on the menu or everywhere in the restaurant say "They will charge more if the customers only eat goat". This is buffet. Does that mean you can eat any amount of anything on the buffet menu? I told him that if you had this rule, then you should let everyone know, and then he said that to the lady next to my table, and said "see, I also said that to her", and the lady said "I am a vegetarian, so I don't eat goat". Should the restaurant give a discount to the customers who are vegetarian because vegetables are cheaper than meats, if they charge more on the customers who only eat meat?
I asked him why he only said that to me, he didn't explain nicely, just become ruder.
The worst...
