I enjoyed my time in this restaurant. It is not a chain. It is a family run establishment serving items of traditional fare for a restaurant in this category, generally called a Mom and Pop Restaurant. The service is EXCELLENT. We were seated after only a brief wait. Our food was served in a timely manner. Everyone who came to the table was kind and attentive. Our waitress was perfect! She kept us well cared for, and refills were offered consistently. I ordered coffee. The creamers and sweeteners were on the table and plentiful. My rating of three stars is based upon my food. It was just ordinary, nothing to get excited about and rather bland. There was very little taste to anything. I was there during hours generally considered breakfast time. I do not eat pork. They serve a lot of pork with the breakfast dishes; ham, bacon, and sausage. There are not many other meat choices for breakfast. I ordered cube steak without gravy. They do offer two types of gravy. Perhaps my cube steak would have been better had I been offered Heinz 57, or A-1 to go with it, since I did not order gravy. Without any sauce, it appeared to be just a packaged, breaded, perhaps even rebreaded, cube steak fried. There was no taste, no flavor, but it was not greasy. I'm glad it was not greasy. The same is true of my hashbrowns. They had no taste and no flavor. The hashbrowns were greasy and a bit undercooked. My order came with Texas toast. It was fine. They do offer white bread or wheat. Grits came with my order, too. I had buttered grits that were standard for a café, nothing exceptional, most likely instant. This is a typical, local area café. It is not supposed to be gourmet. It is meant to be like a diner serving local fare. This is exactly what it is, but the foods I ordered need more taste and more flavor. Both the meat and the hasbrowns tasted the same. This restaurant is very busy with people who obviously visit regularly. Most probably live nearby. It is great to go there if you don't want to cook anything at home. The portions are very generous. I brought home what I did not finish and had enough food for two more breakfasts. The service is wonderful, the food is basic. I would return to Papa's Place, but I would order something different. This was only my first visit to this establishment. I cannot base my overall opinion of a restaurant on what I ordered one time. As for cleanliness, this restaurant is very clean, including the restrooms. For a busy place, the restrooms were exceptionally clean. These people work hard! They want their customers to be happy. I did not try their desserts, but a lot of traffic was circling the baked desserts and pudding area, so this is a sign that they are good. In addition to food, they have kitchen- oriented items for sale. They would make nice gifts for the chefs in your family. If asked, I would say yes, go and...
Read moreFirst time i ate here about a month ago, we had a horrible experience. Took forever for waitress to greet us and then it took forever to get our food. Some food was cold and there was nothing special about the taste. We decided to give it another try only to find our second experience much worse than the first. First, we walked in to find the most miserable looking teenage girl. Quit already if you hate your job that much. She just starred at us. I had to say "Um 3 please" - Gave her my name and she just went back to polishing silver. I asked how long it would be and she said 10 minutes. 25 minutes later, there's us plus about 15 other people standing around waiting for a table. Once we finally got sat, i saw that there were at least 10 open tables ready to be sat. Even if you're running behind, how are you just going to let your customers stand in the lobby with this young girl doing side work and not even acknowledging anyone... Like sit them really quick and tell them you're a little behind and you'll get to them ASAP. These people need a giant class in customer service. We ordered our drinks and shortly after our food. My sister in law got the incorrect sandwich. Two of us ordered soups and asked for them to come our first, they never came out until we got our entrees and our waitress just laughed. We could hear her complaining in the booth behind us about how tired she was and how she was ready to go home. She brought the check with us still having full plates on the table... Honestly, probably should have left after our encounter with the "hostess". If you're considering eating here, good luck, hopefully you have a better time...
Read morePapa's place is an excellent establishment for breakfast anytime of the day. When you walk up to the door and see the awards they have won, following your meal it will make complete sense as to how they got there.
We have come here twice, once we ordered take out. The second time my wife and I sat down in the restaurant.
The takeout order was great, and we were not missing any food. It was all prepared correctly, bagged for easy carry and the choice of container ensured that when I got back home the meal was still consumable and the presentation was maintained despite it being take out.
When we sat in the restaurant, it was seat your self. While looking for a seat the staff was very friendly, and we were greeted by all the waitresses as we found our seat. The quotes on the backs of the booth seats provide an entertaining aesthetic to the theme of things "Dad" would say. The food was prompt, and my favorite thing is that there was a young woman who constantly filled out coffee cups. My cup NEVER got to the bottom the entire time while waiting for food until we paid our bill and departed. That has NEVER happened at ANY breakfast place I have been to. It may be small to some, but that is a significant sign of attention to detail, customer service and the willingness to be an excellent proprietor.
Please visit Papa's Place. You will not be disappointed. We plan to come back...
