First time trying this place since it took over Chin Chin, and was very hopeful, as Chin Chin used to be good but had ended up being pretty bad their last few years.
I asked a few friends and they had said that Asian Ginger wasn't very good, but that maybe they "went on an off day". I heard that from a few different people. Decided to see for myself. This was a pick up order, we did not dine in.
Order consisted of: Sushi, teriyaki salmon and chicken, sesame chicken, fried rice, and Thai iced tea.
Regarding the Service:
To start off, I will say that the staff was very friendly. I really appreciate good service and that, they had. Well done.
Regarding the food:
The Sushi.... It was decent. Nothing to write home about, but definitely not the worst I have had in GA. If I was craving sushi and they were the only place that was open, I would possibly go there again.
The Teriyaki Salmon.... Sub-par, but still, not the worst. Not as good as the sushi. I don't think I'd get that again, if I ever went back.
The Thai tea.... Not great. Too sweet and not much flavor. Tastes like a watered down mix and not real Thai tea. I do not recommend this.
Unfortunately, that's about it for the good reviews.
The Fried Rice.... For transparency, we only ordered the fried rice that comes with the meal, so it's a basic egg fried rice. This also be my favorite kind of fried rice. I really tried, but it was not good. Didn't taste like fried rice. Tastes like white rice with soy sauce sprinkled on it, and scrambled eggs added to it, not like a combination that is added and fried together in the pan. The rice was soft and mushy, didn't have the taste or appearance of rice that came anywhere near a wok.
The Sesame Chicken.... Definitely the worst sesame chicken I have ever had. I couldn't even eat it, I had to throw it out. It was sinewy and chewy. Tasted like it was old and microwaved. Soggy on the outside and rubber on the inside, with a hint of rancid oil to round out the unpleasantness. It was not cheap enough to just throw out, but it was absolutely inedible. This came with fried rice, which I have already described above.
The teriyaki chicken.... Almost as bad as the sesame chicken. Tough, chewy, tasted old and reheated.
In Summary.... There are a few Asian restaurants in Dawsonville, so if you're in the mood for Chinese, Japanese, or Thai, I would definitely look elsewhere.
In all fairness, we don't have an exceptional Asian restaurant in Dawsonville. You really have to venture much closer to Gwinnett for that.
Exceptionality aside, I felt like I threw $70 in the trash. Very...
Read moreUnderstand this is about service not food! Since moving to Dawsonville, Ga this has always been a better restaurant than most in the area and that is why it is frequented. However, since the change in staff the service is just not good..No one really greets you and worst of all they rush you out the door even if you have plenty of time before closing.
The other night I wasn't finished eating and it was still 15 minutes before closing when the owner and staff started sweeping the floor around me like I wasn't even there; clearing the condiments off the surrounding tables and pulling tables to the center of the floor.
The food is usually good and fresh but the service has changed over the last few months and the prices have significantly increased.
I will try again but the owner needs to fix this kind of nonsense. Stop cleaning up around your patrons before they are finished eating and let them leave before sweeping around them - STAY AWAY from people...
Read moreThis is a totally hidden gem along the growing and busy GA 400 in Dawsonville. You can easily miss that Chin Chin is here among all the retail stores and traffic, but it is worth checking out and keeping an open eye for.
The restaurant is very warm and cozy when you walk inside. The aroma from all the delightful cooking food will have your taste buds salivating.
I ordered the General Tso Chicken, and my order was excellent; the chicken was cooked perfectly, the sauce was excellent, and the vegetables were fresh and cooked well. My wife ordered the Beef and Broccoli, and she said it was very fresh and excellently flavored.
Service was impeccable, our drinks were kept filled, and we wanted for nothing during our visit. Dirty plates were quickly removed and we had a wonderful experience dining at Chin Chin. This is a place we would bring guests when they visit from...
