Shirley's Country Kitchen — Restaurant in Georgia

The owner was the only staff member working at the time I came in to order. I ordered food to go. My first time eating there. I heard great things about the food and was happy to try it out during my lunch break. The order came with two pieces of chicken breast and sides, I also ordered dessert. I asked if she could package one of the chicken breasts in small separate container because I wasn’t going to eat it all for lunch and was going to bring home for my kid. She was rude and basically said no. I asked if she had a piece of foil that I could use to wrap the extra chicken breast up and take home. She handed me a piece of foil but then asked for it back because she said it was too big. She took the foil put it on the counter near the cash register and with both of her hands (no clean gloves or anything), and split it in half to give me a smaller piece. I was in complete shock that she took the foil from my hands and then used her bare hands to touch all over it just to split it in half because she said she “didn’t mean to me such a big piece”. Lol I thought that was weird. Wasn’t sanitary at all. Basically unprofessional. I kindly paid for my food and left and will not go back. She was also on the phone making a personal call while finishing up my order. I also had sweet tea with my meal and when I asked about it, she was rude about giving it to me. Maybe she had a bad day. Maybe because she didn’t have much help and seemed to be doing everything by herself, she was tired. Idk but I don’t recommend. The food wasn’t good. Tea was good. Service was bad....

The people at Shirley's are great! Very friendly. The Fried Chicken is probably the best in the area. Fried perfectly crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. Only critique on the chicken was the batter is a bit too salty. But overall I loved the chicken. However, the sides were a bit of a disappointment. The macaroni and cheese was good. The green beans were very bland, almost straight from the can taste. The cornbread dressing was boring. The black-eyed peas were cooked well, but a bit too salty. The plain cornbread was ok, not great. However, the jalapeno cornbread was very good. We ate very little of the sides. AND as I could tell from the plates of other guests there, everyone ate their chicken, but I did see lots of uneaten side items. DEFINITELY side dishes need improvement. Value was not great. We paid $31 for two people for the buffet. Essentially we ate 4 pieces of chicken between the two of us for $31. However, it did include the drink. The salad bar could also use some major attention. Looked a bit drab. Overall, I would DEFINITELY GO BACK to get the Fried chicken, but maybe to-go. I also want to go back when they do fish, which I have a feeling they will do a good job with fish. The country food they serve here is truly exceptional. From the perfectly fried chicken to the fresh and flavorful vegetables, every bite is a delight.
