I would rank this a one star, but the lady cashier who took care of us had phenomenal customer service.
I haven't been in this restaurant since before the pandemic so my family and I were not aware that there had been so many drastic changes, none of which were for the better. We had gone to Steak n Shake as a family for years and we had never left disappointed nor without full bellies. Tonight? My wife and I were sorely disappointed at what has become of what was once a great place to eat.
The menu has gone from a multi page plethora of delicious meals to one measly printer paper worth of items to choose from, and none of them really jumped off the page as something I really wanted to try. My favorite meal to choose from years ago- the amazing taco salad- was no where to be seen, nor was much anything available that wasn't beef or pork- the nice cashier explained that since the pandemic the menu had been streamlined and the owners had even gone as far as to remove any chicken options!
The garlic burger meal I ended up choosing was disappointing, being nothing more than a simple cheeseburger with a little garlic and herb seasoning sprinkled across the top and, even though I ate all of my meal, I walked away still hungry. I remember many a time before where I would have to take a to go container because my meals would be so fulfilling! My wife's choice of the Fresco was no better and my daughter complained her double party burger was too bland tasting. The tabletop containers of sauces and seasons were no where to be seen, and that was highly disappointing because the fries we had received were as bland as my daughter's burger and even some had turned hard, making them hard to chew!
Just so that this review isn't completely negative, I do have to say that by far the best things about our meal were the milkshakes my son and daughter ordered- a chocolate and a banana. At least that hasn't changed, though there are definitely far less options now.
All in all, the $40 for my family to eat was not worth the price, and we will sadly not been returning unless the owner decides to return the restaurant to its former glory. Until then, I can not in good conscience recommend this in any way to anyone. Don't...
Read moreThis must be the single WORST S&S restaurant we’ve ever been to. Was it the clueless cashier? YEP! Was it the miserably unhappy looking crew? YEP! Was it the RUDE manager on duty? ABSOLUTELY!!! Examples: I asked to have 2 “shots” of Vanilla added to a Coke. The cashier tells me, “we have a drink bar, you get it out there” - umm ok - went to fix the drink, no flavors to be seen. Went back to the counter and the Manager RUDELY said, “that’s EXTRA” - ok, no problem, HOWEVER, I asked for it during my order, not after the fact. While ordering one of my CHEESEBURGERS, Triple Steakburger (3x cheese), I asked for ONLY Mayo, pickles, lettuce and tomato. When we got home, it had ketchup, onions and pickles - NO CHEESE AT ALL. I asked for a total of 4 cups melted cheddar cheese to go with the fries, the cashier said, you may as well just get a large fries with cheese on it. I’m NO. That’s NOT what we asked for. But wait - THERES MORE! It was my Birthday - when I showed my app (now deleted), and inquired about the birthday milkshake, I was told you have to earn points for that. Not according to the corporate website you don’t. I even had my ID to show proof. S’NS use to be a fun place to go, especially with friends and family. Not anymore. I’m not sure who dropped the ball on this one, but it bounced from Dalton, GA to Los Angeles, CA. Bad, bad, bad. Outright pitiful and disgraceful. I sure hope corporate doesn’t come audit your store because I’d place a bet they’d snatch your Franchise certificate because this isn’t it. Happy...
Read moreWalked in after returning from a long trip. We were tired and wanted a sit down restaurant. We were greeted with an older lady barking out orders- "order the kiosk or I can take your order"- we sat down thinking she would come to our table and take our order. We past by 6 nasty dirty tables that had not been wiped off. My boyfriend and my 2 sons went to the bathroom. They said BOTH hand soap containers were empty. They also said they watched a worker come out of a bathroom stall and didn't wash his hands (no hand soap or even hand sanitizer).
Finally after being seated for 10-15 minutes a male manager informed us that they no longer had food servers and made it a point to be nasty as he said they hadn't had food servers in a few years. I was irritated in how he spoke to me so I asked about all the dirty tables and no hand soap for employees or guests. He tried to ignore the fact that the store was dirty and there was no hand soap.
We got up and left- manager didn't offer an apology or anything other than an attitude.
For the price of the food they should have food servers, a clean restaurant, and at least hand soap.
I promise I will never give my money to Steak n Shake again!! Nasty attitudes, dirty restaurant, and disgusting that there isn't a way to wash...
