The food at this location is always great, and our most recent experience was no exception. However, the service could use some MAJOR work and oversight.
To start, the bartender with the booming voice has a horrible habit of using profanity. This isn’t a bar in downtown Athens. It’s a restaurant where families should feel comfortable bringing kids. But this guy and his constant f-bombs make that really difficult. This is the second time we’ve been in and noticed his potty mouth. I doubt I will ever go back inside with my kids.
After we had ordered an appetizer, our waitress proceeded to chat with someone at the bar for 15 minutes while we tried to get her to come back and take our order. When she finally noticed us looking, she said, “be there in a minute” and proceeded to finish her conversation. She finally did come to the table and said, “I heard you wanted to order your meal after your appetizer came.” Not sure where she heard this since we hadn’t spoken to her or anyone else since we ordered our appetizer.
We probably would have overlooked these situations, and I wouldn’t have felt the need to leave a review were it not for the puppy. There was a couple on the patio area with a puppy and AT LEAST 6 or 7 employees went out there to pet, hug, and pick up this animal for 5 minutes or more at a time. Meanwhile, patrons are waiting to be seen and probably not realizing that their servers are playing with an animal between food runs. This was incredibly unsanitary, and I couldn’t help but wonder if all of those people washed their hands (and clothes) after playing with the hairy (Labrador) dog.
Finally, and most surprisingly, while we were sitting in our booth enjoying our appetizer, one of the employees dropped a bottle of cleaning solution behind me and splattered it in my hair, on my clothes, and on our table/food. About half a dozen employees were there to help with the cleanup, and they clearly noticed us wiping ourselves down. However, not a single one of them apologized or asked if we needed napkins. Not one person even acknowledged that this happened.
This location lacks oversight and direction. They could also use a major refresher on sanitization and customer service when you make a mistake. I’m a patient patron since I was once a server myself. But this was A LOT of problems for...
Read moreA friend and I went for the first time after hearing a lot of great things. Unfortunately, we were not overly impressed. We were seated immediately, even during their busy dinner rush, which was great. However, our service was very slow; our waitress was very slow tending to our needs, taking our order, getting refills, etc.
We ordered two appetizers: the avocado egg rolls and the cheese dip. The avocado egg rolls were just alright, though the portion to price ratio felt like a horrible value. The cheese dip was pretty good however and more reasonably priced with what you would expect.
Before I go any further, I want to say that the presentation of every dish that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. However, looks are only good for first impressions. For our main dishes, I ordered 3 different tacos with couscous as a side. The tacos were good, but the couscous was served cold (which surprised me) and was overall fairly bland. I tried spicing up the couscous with other seasonings, but nothing seemed to help elevate the flavor. My friend ordered one of their poke bowls and was very unsatisfied with it. I thought maybe he had not had poke before and that's why he didn't like it, but when I tried it, I was unimpressed as well. It was very bland as well and while they offered Sriracha sauce with it, it wasn't served with any other things typically associated with sushi such as wasabi, soy sauce, etc. It was a bed of white rice with tuna, and various other raw vegetables such as cucumber. I finally was able to get it tasting decent by requesting various sauces from the kitchen, but at that point my friend didn't want anymore.
Overall, the environment is nice, the wait staff seems very nice, the presentation of dishes is amazing, but the taste and value of dishes leaves something to be desired. For the most part, you feel like your at an upscale restaurant with mediocre food. I know many people love it, but it simply...
