I arrived here about 930pm on Mother's Day.Even though it was Mother's Day my husband who works very hard to take care of his household had to work. He requested I get ox tail from his preferred spot however that location was closed at 8pm. So because my husband really wanted it for dinner I sought out any spot that was opened. Found here open till 12am
I drove 25 minutes. It's in the corner. Walkin standing room only. And no more than 5 ppl can stand in line comfortably.
They take call in orders but no one answered when i called to check if they had oxtail. i said i need to check it out. Arrived i looked over the food to make sure i wanted to buy there. visually not dry, 10pm looked pretty fresh. cleaned around each pan and utensils. first thing i asked is do you only sell white rice. yes they sais kind of short.
A white guy had called in an order. it wasn't ready. I did notice the small amount of white rice she gave him in his plate. then to myself I'm thinking i guess they do that at this one. Then my turn to order. i asked for large oxtail and asked if i can just have extra side of gravy. "We don't do that". Oh wow so anyway thought id ask. "We are cooking more rice" I said ok. then after 5 mins asked how long is the wait for rice. The lady said 20 minutes. i said i prefer not to wait on white rice anyway. ( im thinking most Jamaican spots have more than one type of rice). Ill take the large Oxtail with no rice. "We don't sell it like that" I SAID WHAT? I'll prefer not to wait. I'll pay for it without the rice. THEY SEEMED SO CONFUSED but at the same time unconcerned, nonchalant and a little rude about it.
At any rate this is the most ridiculous thing I've almost never experienced in a long time in any establishment, namely a black establishment and a Jamaican establishment. This location will not last the rest of the competition with these non customer friendly rules.
I am black but probably turned red. i was not happpy and let them have as much critique i could to hold back . including them putting a damper on my holiday.
FINALLY GOT THE OXTAIL WITH NO RICE and cabbage. I usually get plantain for $21. But it's late and i didn't want one more minute of them telling me " We dont do that". Well what CAN you do for customers. Just nonsense.
I also thought i ordered a large. Flimsy ppaper container that looks like a small. Could not stand the smell on the drive home. Fixed my own plain white rice with nothing in it. now hubby home and the verdict will be in. 1217am.

Read moreI’ve ordered from this restaurant several times on Uber eats and for the first time I had a issue last night receiving my order so I called the restaurant to see if I was able to pick it up myself since the uber eats driver was taking way too long to pick up the order and they were closing soon. The woman I spoke to on the phone was so kind and respectful. I should’ve got her name so I can properly give her the praise she deserves. She truly was trying and willing to help and called me back and came up with a solution. I’m pregnant and was craving their jerk chicken and beef patty so bad and they blessed us last night lol. Even threw in free macaroni and cheese balls which I love so much and was tempted to buy but end up getting it for free for the trouble Uber eats caused. They gave us sweet plantains and a drink as well! I was so satisfied with my order. Food (Jerk Chicken, beef Patty, Macaroni and Cheese balls, sweet plantains, oxtails and rice and peas) was fresh and delicious as ALWAYS. The juice was very good too. It was my boyfriend first time eating from them and he LOVE the oxtails, it was so good, a great portion and fresh. Now I got him saying he going back again lol. We still have leftover food from last night! It was NOT their fault AT ALL that our order wasn’t delivered but they went above and beyond for us and allowed us to pick it up and I’m forever grateful. We will always buy from them. To the woman I spoke to, I hope you see this. Thank you, you’re so kind, patient and respectful. You didn’t have to go above and beyond because the issue was not your fault but you still made sure we got our order. Because of you and the staff you was working with last night, I’ll always buy from your restaurant. God bless you all and your establishment.
PS: food was so good, we slept amazing last night 🤣 recommend: oxtails, jerk chicken, the juice they have, beef patty, macaroni and cheese balls, rice and peas and...
Read moreHorrible Food...All Sugar, Mushy Rice and Overall Disgusting Food! Horrible meats, dry and chews like 'WOOD'! They should be put out of business for trying to pass that garbage off as Jamaican food...I suppose they don't think people know the difference, but I absolutely do and I will never go back to 'A Taste of Jamaica' because it definitely isn't any kind of Taste of Jamaica! You'd do way better driving to Norfolk, VA and going to 'Higher Heights'...now, that's Authentic Jamaican Food! Don't be fooled just because of the name or because it's in Atlanta, their so-called Jamaican fair...is not anything to be desired#! When I went to return the garbage and get my money back, I was told that only a certain person can refund my money and to come back later....what kind of of garbage is that, for customer service? I bet when I go back later today, there will be yet, another excuse or a refusal to refund my money I paid for a bunch of flavorless, dry, nasty food that only tasted of sugar...not spice, curry nor jerk....just beware...do not go to the place that calls themselves, 'A Taste of Jamaica'....because they are in no way, any 'TASTE'....OF JAMAICA!
Also, the place is filthy!
I make real...Authentic Jamaican Food at home....I make everything from scratch, including the marinade, I'm half Jamaican, so I know exactly the difference between A Taste of Jamaica's so-called Authentic Jamaican Food, and the true Authentic Jamaican Food recipes...
Don't be Fooled!!!
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED, don't say I didn't tell you!
Typo:
My son is half Jamaican...not me...however, I do make my own and I learned from the best of Kingston!!! I also make Haitian Food, again I learned from the best, because I was in a Haitian band for four years, so I know authenticity when I see and taste it,and...a so-called 'Taste of Jamaica' certainly is not Authentic nor Palatable!
