I'll start by saying that I am grateful that this restaurant at this location was able to accommodate a large group of family and friends on short notice, following my father's funeral yesterday, in a separate dining room. Since we desperately needed a "backup plan" when our prior plans fell through, this place came through for us. THAT, and the overall quality and taste of their food, and good service, is why I'm giving only 3 stars. And, if not for the negative, I would have given 5 stars even though our overall experience wasn't perfect.
I had their meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans, which were all delicious. Since I make a great meatloaf, it's hard to find meatloaf I like. But I really enjoyed theirs. The mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly, the brown gravy was good, and green beans had a great flavor. My husband loved their fried chicken...hot and crispy, and our daughter said their lemon meringue pie was delicious as well. Our pasta-lover grandson did NOT like their penne pasta and complained it was mushy with no flavor. I couldn't figure out how to use their ice cream machine, which was unfortunate, so I opted for chocolate pudding, which was the whipped type, as opposed to real pudding, but it tasted good. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal and had additional servings.
Now for the negative: Their restrooms and overall cleanliness takes 2 stars away from a perfect rating. Their women's restroom was absolutely filthy and unattended, albeit they did have supplies such as paper towels and tissue. But in my "book of life", cleanliness IS TRULY next to godliness, especially when it comes to public eateries. You can learn a lot about a restaurant by the condition of their restrooms ... which, unfortunately, always leads to questions in the mind about the KITCHEN used to prepare their food. So their restrooms made me very uncomfortable. It looked like it had been days since it was cleaned. And there were clogged toilets, yes, plural. My husband said the men's room wasn't bad, but you know how some men are. 😉
And, speaking of the restrooms, when I asked the restaurant manager where their restrooms were, he curtly said "Right behind me at the end", which was confusing, so I asked "All the way to the end?", and he ignored me. A customer seated nearby had to answer for him by telling me "All the way to the end, go left." He appeared to be having a bad day.
Would I go back? Yes, hoping this review might make a difference in the future cleanliness of their restrooms. In fact, I could go for another serving of their meatloaf...
Read moreIt was Cheap, and There was a medium variety of food. Those are the good points. The Regular Clientel of this establishment is one that does not understand the concept of lines. I'm amazed the Elderly aren't just bulldozed aside by the kids/teens/kids-at-heart here. Be sure to wipe down your table when you sit, the Table WILL be wet (They Don't Wipe Chairs, no need to dry them. May want to wipe them in case). If You Try To Eat Like A NORMAL Buffet, Your Food Will Be Cold Before You Sit Down. I Suggest You Get ONE THING at a time if you want your food to be at an edible temp. Going for fries? Get the fries and sit and eat, because if you get the fries AND a Steak? Both items will be cold before you get to your table. Get the steak, go back, sit down, eat the hot steak. Then go back up, get your luke warm mash and gravy and eat that while it's edible. Then if you need a dinner roll, finiah the mash and gravy first THEN get your dinner roll, or it'll be cold and stale when you sit. They serve steak, but even at medium rare you better slice it into deli thin cuts because this steak is TOUGH! (Light Seasoning of Salt and Pepper, you might struggle to taste it at first, but it's there). The Chicken was nice and hot but this was after I figured out you nees to eat AT THE LINE for the items to be hot. The chicken, however, had no seasoning in the breading, I think adding seasoning or taste might clash with the theme of the menu. The Mash Potatoes were clearly over-whipped, it looked like shiny plastic. The Gritz... cold, no flavor, was like forking up a ball of cold chunky snot. The Sausage Gravy was luke warm, cold by the time it got back to my table. Ham and Steak are a 5 to 7 minute wait. Time your plates accordingly. Service was VERY Slow, but our waitress was nice? I don't know, I only saw her once? (She Probably Knew The Food Wasn't Passing). Managers are NOT asking people how the food is, though I did spot a manager so I know they're there. I saw the bacon, and the line for the bacon, but after experiencing the Bland Mac n Cheese, The Bland Green Beans and Peas, And the cold bland gravy, I didn't want to find out how they drained the flavor from the Bacon. The chicken soup, mushy and bland (salt allergies?) I wasn't brave enough to try the desserts.
Overall I suggest visiting during Lunch Rates, It's Good To Visit At Least Once So You KNOW to...
Read moreLet me start off by saying this was on Father's day and i had my wife and 2 daughters with me. Super super busy of course so we waited maybe 20 minutes in line. Not an issue my 4 and 5 year old absolutely love this place and it reminds me of eating out with my dad so we come here often. To say this experience was humiliating or bad would be an under statement. My wife does not care for this place, so when she comes, she gets her drink and just hangs out. Today they had a new policy and said everyone has to pay whether they eat or not. Stacey is always awsome and happy. She said nicely that she was just informed that everyone had to pay. I asked for management because thats never happened. Melody came along and said no there was nothi g they could do. She was mean and body language was saying i dont want to help nor did she want to be there. An older gentleman in a red shirt shrugged stacey off and thats how melody came in the pic. I told melody that we wanted to talk to the manager. So finally an older gentleman came along. I think hes cooked steaks. Was not able to get his name. Big part of it all was trying to get his name. He was helpful and was gonna let us through. My wife was upset and melody made it worse by getting upset that he was gonna let us through. My wife asked the gentlemen for melodys name because she was gonna write a review. This upset him and he said we can leave. We asked for his name and he refused and said he was calling the cops. We again asked if we can talk to someone in charge because this is all uncalled for. We just wanted their name so we can leave and finish our fathers day somewhere else. They told us to wait on the other side where the high chairs are and we waited for the cops because they were called. We were not beligerent, and this was completely unacceptable. I wanted the mangers name that told us to leave over google review talk so we can contact the owners. Horrible horrible fathers day. Saddest thing is while we were waiting melody was there laughing and smiling all of a sudden. Very sickening.
Really breaks my heart because we already travel 35 minutes to come here and it was not only a great memory for me growing up but had become anotherone for my 4 and 5 year old. Now that is ruined because of a new policy and saying we will...
