The review I am leaving here is meant to show the full experience we received, as a party of two.
We dined on Father's Day 2024, arriving at 10:30 AM for a late breakfast/brunch. It was understandably busy and we were fully prepared for a wait. Several parties ahead of had already began to leave, so our own time waiting for a table was likely reduced than it otherwise would have been.
At 11:15 AM, we were seated at their outdoor patio. We were not given menus or offered water when first seated. The clock hit 11:35 AM and unfortunately a waiter had yet to pass by to provide a menu, offer drinks, or silverware. One of us had to go to the front desk to ask for menus, which we then promptly received. We were offered a complimentary mimosa due to the delay in service. We ordered right away after receiving our menus.
At around 12:00 PM, the food was brought to the table. I ordered a chicken fried steak with hash-browns, and a biscuit and gravy as a side; the other member of my party ordered a patty melt.
The food overall was good. The country gravy was thick in consistency, and the chicken fried steak was well seasoned and flavorful. The patty melt had a generously sized patty inside that was cooked according to how it was asked for (medium rare). We were given a complimentary pineapple and mango mimosa. I would pass on ordering the pineapple mimosa again, but I think the mango mimosa did a much better job of working together with the alcohol that was used.
The portion sizes were not quite as anticipated based on the pricing. The chicken fried steak in particular stood out as being one of the smaller ones I've had in town, maybe slightly bigger than the size of my palm. Similar breakfast spots around Gilroy provide the same quality food at a comparable price, but with larger portions that you can potentially take home for later.
The biggest take away from the experience was that they were unprepared for the Father's Day brunch rush. We caught grumbles from other restaurant goers that also lamented the wait time, being disappointed when the food finally came, or being left unsatisfied. It may be because the restaurant is relatively new, but other breakfast spots have done things like creating a limited menu that eases the load on the chefs or ensuring that they have more staff available to wait tables.
I think the other reviews left here are accurate: the food here is good and the environment is nice. We received good service and attention, but only when we initiated and asked. May try this one again later once they've had a chance to nail down the...
Read moreI stopped by Eggs & Waffles in Gilroy for breakfast, hoping to grab something quick to go, but this is more of a sit-down spot—which isn’t a bad thing. The restaurant itself was clean, spacious, and had a welcoming feel. The staff was friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. I was seated quickly and given all the time I needed to look over the menu without feeling rushed.
I decided on the Apple Sausage Omelet, which came loaded with chicken apple sausage, mushrooms, green onions, cheese, avocado, and sour cream. It also came with sides—I passed on the toast but stuck with the hash browns. The food arrived incredibly fast, within 10 minutes of ordering, which was impressive given the quality.
The omelet was delicious, well-balanced with fresh ingredients, and cooked just right. But what really stood out was the excellent service. My waitress was attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly to make sure everything was perfect. She had the kind of warm, small-town hospitality that makes for a great dining experience.
I arrived around 8:10 AM on a Monday, and it wasn’t too busy at that time, making for a relaxed meal. While it wasn’t the quick grab-and-go spot I initially had in mind, the experience more than made up for it. If you’re looking for a solid breakfast with great service in Gilroy, Eggs & Waffles is definitely...
Read moreSo, on our way back from San Jose, we decided to stop for a bite. Honestly, we started looking at the menu and thought it was a little pricey. Then again, so is everywhere else now. Anyway….We ordered and didn’t know what to expect.
Out comes this humongous platter with all the fixings. Now we realized why it cost what it cost. Presentation. Awesome. Food temp. Spectacular. Service. Excellent. These folks busted their back the whole time.
Let me give you an example:
There were 6 people in the restaurant but they were cleaning and working like the restaurant was packed. Side note: Dear Owner and Manager, Keep this staff at all cost!!!!
I gave the food minus 1 star because I’m picky as hell. I can only suggest adding a little more cinnamon and vanilla to the pancake. Having said that, I love the texture because it doesn’t disintegrate when you put syrup on it.
The eggs could have used a little more salt but nothing a couple of drops of Tabasco couldn’t fix. But those eggs came out hot! Like, almost had to spit it out, hot. Loved it!!!
Needless to say, we...
