Riverfront Park is simply the BEST park for family, mom with small kids, Teens, Seniors, a 1st Date walk with coffee, or just to relax your mind and experience nature in SAFE environment for everyone but, especially young women & runners . The main building has excellent bathrooms for men & women with handicap electric doors so walkers and wheelchairs access. The park itself has 2 different walking areas that are open and either smooth gravel pathway or paved sidewalk. Both surfaces are a total of 3.4 miles so you can walk or run 1 or 2 or parts of either. Safety for women from crime must always be a concern and you are 100% safe here parking, walking and running. High public presence and police are always patrolling so the early morning or late after work jogger/walker feels safe. The Children have an excellent playscape with swings in 2 different fenced areas so you can bring 2 small kids and keep track of both. The 4 paddleball courts are new and clean. Usually open except for classes. The large park area has live Summer Music concerts 6 times and information on the website for the park tells you what nights & days have live music. You bring chairs and drinks but, usually 2 or 3 food trucks will be there too. The Dog Park is located on the opposite side of the athletic fields and hidden in the woods. So park at the 2nd entrance behind the baseball field to access that woods area and fenced dog park. The parking is always free anywhere in the 3 different parking areas and no car breaking in crimes so far. The woods trails by the dog park are generally safe but perhaps a single person might not walk the more hidden areas alone especially going right down along the Connecticut River field trails. I always believe in a walking partner and no one can hear you in the rual area by the river. Big concern is young families walking small children out on the boat docks to look at the water without wearing a "lifevest." I am going to reccomend the town of Glastonbury offer "free child vests" in a box near these boat pontoons. Water Safety is not a joke! Any small child who trips on their sandals or looks over the water to touch it could easily fall into the very dangerous Connecticut River and drowning would be immediate. Even a highly skilled adult swimmer can not survive the twisting and powerful currents of this Connecticut River. Please consider safety around water with all kids including teens who might fake push eachother as a joke. Overall bringing a family picnic , a Frisbee, a football or soccer ball to share a throw or kick to eachother is a perfect family of friends day. A easy chair, blanket, good book all fit in well. I do not ever hear anyone playing radio music so this might be a rule or just the culture of respect of others right to silence. Daybreak Coffee up the street is a good morning stop to bring a coffee to walk and enjoy the river views at the park clubhouse. This is also where Glastonbury crew team practices and races too. Go enjoy it but always pick up your trash because this park is super clean and we all should keep...
Read moreBeautiful views, always clean and taken care of. Great for hikes, walks, pinics etc. Nice indoor bathroom. 2 separate fenced in playgrounds next to each other, for toddlers and older children. Bathroom is across the parking lot but not too far a walk. Best highlights for my children and I are: ▪basketball court is far enough away from playground that if it was applicable during your visit, teenage group behaviors and language are not noticeable. ▪very well lit ▪my older kid can "hang out" with friends at the dock or fields, in the same area as my little ones. ▪no pool. Yup, no pool can be an asset in the summer. Not overcrowded with buses of kids in summer programs. ▪great playground equipment with tons of climbing, sandbox, and enough places to sit, should your children allow it. ▪my young ones love eating lunch on a blanket watching the boats go by, going on "adventures" on the trails, and visiting the dog park. If you end up staying long enough, which is quite easy there, dusk brings out many bird species, great views of sunsets, lit fountain, and the occasional baseball game...
Read moreThe worst experience dealing with one of the rangers. Got there not even half an hour ago and just left. The lady was really rude and complaining about everything we did. Park the car close to the picnic just to get the babies stuff out and she’s barking that we have to move. Even after explaining she’s still rude. She left a couple of minutes later she sees the dog and starts yelling again that he has to be on a leash, we tell her again that he is indeed on a leash. Mind you this is a 10 pound poodle. We ask about the grills and there she goes again that we can’t do it. Also, we were the only Latinos there at the moment. More obvious this...
