California Wok Glendale — Restaurant in Glendale

California Wok is a new restaurant (6 months), which serves made-to-order Chinese food in Glendale.

My family and I picked this restaurant because my 84 y/o mom wanted to eat Chinese food, it’s highly rated on Yelp, and it’s located close by to where my parents live.

The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with decent parking in the parking lot. It’s clean and well lit and everything still looks new, including the menus! The dining room isn’t too big; it could probably accommodate 30 people comfortably.

The food was prepared quickly and it came out fresh and hot. We ordered Mongolian beef, spicy eggplant, and fish filet with mixed vegetables from the lunch special section of the menu, which also comes with soup or salad and steamed white or brown rice. We got a good amount of food for a reasonable price. All of us had enough leftover for a second meal! 😄

Good tasting Chinese food is easy to find in the San Gabriel Valley where I come from. However, it’s a rare treat in the Glendale area! 😁👍 If you’re craving some good Chinese food, I highly recommend that you check out...

TL;DR BBQ Pork Buns are 5 stars. Every other dish I've had is 3 stars.

I've had 4 dishes from here: Chop Suey, Kung Pao Chicken, Snow Peas and Water Chestnut, and BBQ Pork Buns (Dim Sum)

To be honest, I can only recommend the BBQ Pork Buns, but I recommend it highly. It is the best dim sum pork bun you are going to get in Glendale. The filling has a lot of flavor and isn't too dry, and the bun is very soft and fluffy.

The other dishes were okay. I don't expect them to be authentic, but across the board, they generally just lack flavor, which puts them below other Chinese restaurants in Glendale for me.

It is really great that they have a couple dishes with water chestnut though. So for this fact, and the quality of the BBQ Pork Buns alone, I'm giving them 4 stars.

First visit had the salt and pepper shrimp, excellent and big portion. Also had the pistachio macaron with strawberry ice cream sandwich which was very good. Second visit, had the steamed fish filet with fried rice lunch special, very good.

1/13/25: Chicken with mushroom and peapod lunch special.

3/14/25: Deep fried pork chop with fried rice and egg drop soup. Pretty good, get extra spicy with hot sauce.

7/9/25: BBQ Pork with snow peas lunch special with egg drop soup.

4/29/25: Shrimp with black bean sauce and fried rice. Good but not that interesting so wouldn't order again.
