Casa Del Taco Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Glendale

For the sake of being impartial, I did my best to not compare this new restaurant to it's predecessor; however, I will not pretend to be completely unbiased against Casa Del Taco.

When I first walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendly cashier who was patient as I browsed the menu. Within a few minutes of buying my food, which you do first at this restaurant, one of the cooks was already bringing out my meal. Overall, the staff at this restaurant is very kind and attentive, for they do their best to ensure you are satisfied with your meal and that you are enjoying yourself.

The food was delicious, if a little pricy. The restaurant offers free chips to each table, and there is a salsa bar with some tasty salsa. Also, because the chips are thicker than usual, they are perfect for scooping up large amounts of guacamole. Although the cost of the food is a tad bit much considering that the portions are only average size, the food's quality more than makes up for this issue. With a truly authentic Mexican taste, Casa Del Taco offers exactly the kind of food I look for at a sit down restaurant - and you can't go wrong with their menudo.

As for the decor, it is pleasant, though a little odd. This is mostly because one sees vestiges of the building's previous restaurant, Pedro's, mixed in with some new southwestern decor. However, this is not a major issue.

All in all, Casa Del Taco has a few minor quirks, but it has an amazing staff and even better food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Mexican food, and I am hopeful that my opinion of this place will only improve as I continue...

This is a new place, replacing Pedro's, a long-time Glendale, AZ Mexican food institution, and I have to say, it unfortunately does not in any way live up to its predecessor.

The interior, once vibrant and welcoming, appears barren and dull. The menu, once brimming with options at a decent price, is limited and overpriced. The food, once complex and generously portioned, is unremarkable and small. For example, a single plate of chips and guacamole costs over $7. A SINGLE plate.

The man at the front counter was congenial, patient, and prepared to answer all of our questions, so I have no complaints regarding our treatment upon entry and exit.

Our food was brought out by a cook, if the hair net was any indication, and was delivered at irregular intervals, rather than all at once. I don't say this to rag on the cook, not at all, just to point out that there didn't seem to be any actual wait staff to bring out the food and refill the drinks and check on us once we'd begun eating. Maybe it's a "new restaurant understaffing" problem, maybe someone (or several someones) called out sick, or maybe that's just how it works now. I don't know.

I really really REALLY wanted this to be a worthy successor to one of my lifelong favorite restaurants, but it just doesn't measure up. Even considering it entirely on its own merits, forgetting any and all comparisons, is still ranks as "slightly below average", in my estimation. If it was possible to give it less than 1 * I would. The server was very nice but that's about it. I ordered a chimichanga and the shell was so hard to cut I asked for a Sharp knife which I also had a hard time cutting it with. I took about two bites and it was like eating shoe leather. When the server came out from the kitchen I called her over and quietly told her that I couldn't possibly eat this food. I also told her that I hate wasting food but this is not even edible. She was very nice about it and understood. What bothers me though is to cover herself she had to go explain to the Cook or the owner and then come out and let me know that they weren't going to charge me for the meal.
