The evening was empty.
There was absolutely no better word. The sun had thoughtlessly cast itself behind the endless menagerie of one story buildings filled with liquor stores and nameless galleries, and I, a fool and alone, dragging my self home down San Fernando as aimlessly as legally permitted by the state of California's traffic laws.
The time of day had no name, the sky's color undefined, my mind not fastened to any facet of this reality as I grappled for some consistency, some confirmation that I was still real. The lack of any obligation (on a Saturday night of all nights) had cast me into the empty abyss of consciousness; with no particular need to be anywhere in this moment I felt IGNORED!, completely abandoned by the very reality which imprisoned me every other waking moment of my life. My heart screaming for purpose; my only remaining 'to do' for the day was to eat something, anything, any food or even idea of sustenance permitting a sound sleep, proving I had provided for my self in a manner justifiable to the cold laws of nature which seem to only acknowledge my existence when I tried to deny theirs.
An illuminated sign standing firmly at the intersection of Western and San Fernando. Quietly vigilant, it preemptively answered my question, "Are they open?" with an assured, "Yes, we are, during every possible second of recordable time," beneath the logo which, from my direction of approach, was an unapologetic sunrise.
A new direction disobeying the sun's traditional course, indifferent to the unwieldy schedules of nature or time, I had found a place synchronized with this placeless time I had been lost within, and they served tacos. I was prepared to buy one, or as I would soon discover myself ordering, four Del Tacos, and as I considered other menu options my attention was constantly dragged helplessly back to a sign fastened with plastic zip ties advertising venerable "potato poppers" and an option for either four or six.
Waiting quietly in the drive-through line I had the opportunity to capture the sky and the structure, anticipation before its reward the undeniable purpose this monolith was offering, moments before scheduled lights throughout the store's perimeter breathed to life, activating to combat the ominous darkness of night which had not even been given the chance to creep in. The emptiness of the evening had become the stage on which this transaction could take place, and although almost nothing about my environment had actually changed, I felt as though everything most certainly had.
Two cars later, the restaurant accepted my Visa and I accepted a large 'medium' Coca-cola, tacos and poppers along with enough hot-sauce packets to power any hot-sauce powered machine for the rest of time.
And I became that machine. The poppers didn't make it home; my only regret not ordering six; their fried casing and melted cheese ranked them high on worthwhile travel bites- I saw the sun sneaking peeks through my rear view before it fully set, jealously sour-grape-ing its way beneath the horizon.
The tacos were substantial and fantastic with and without the hot sauce, and as I completed the fourth I no longer longed for a meaning, knowing the sun would soon return and I

Read moreHonestly love eating at this Del Taco but today was my first bad experience in 3 years I usually like to order a large drink occasionally a couple other things but without fail me and a couple friends come everyday and purchase 3-5 Large drinks which are 3.75 each by the way and despite being loyal for over 3 years I was confronted today being told I cannot refill my drink for free and that I need to pay for a refill and when I said “no problem I’ll pay for the refill I had no idea” the manager couldn’t even supply me with a refill price or option she got flustered and said she was wrong and they don’t even offer refills mind you she just told us we had to pay for a refill and would have to charge me for a whole separate drink. Very unprofessional this manager needs to be retrained or maybe taken off of front line she’s not knowledgeable of policies and also just was straight lying to our face and kept switching up statements, because of this experience with this nasty manager unfortunately they will be losing my 15-20...
Read moreDel Taco usually hits the spot on the occasion that I go. This time, this location... Not At All! I got Two Chicken Soft Tacos and a Fry. The tortillas were hard and folded weirdly like there was a stale crease in them. The chicken inside was cold and chewy and I would normally say that I was disappointed in the amount of chicken in the taco but I couldn't eat them anyway. I asked for the fries to be crispy but they were practically mush and as soon as I picked one up it just broke due to them being cold, soft, and soggy! The only good thing is that they put about 25 Del Scorcho hot sauce packets in my bag so I saved those for my home supply. I made a homemade burrito the next day and enjoyed it with some Del Scorcho and still had plenty left over! Get it together Del, just don't give your customers inedible food... we really don't expect too much from you in the...
