Hang Loose Hawaiian Shave Ice — Restaurant in Glendale

Very poor service and disappointing first experience.

I was so excited to try. I arrived around 15 minutes before they closed and jumped in the short line outside the door (only one party at a time was allowed inside and they were a little slow). I waited around 10 minutes and was finally next up when the employee popped her head outside and told me she couldn’t serve me.

I checked the time and there were still five minutes before their posted closing time. I asked if there was any way they could make one snow cone, I was very excited for it and had been waiting over ten minutes in line. She refused saying the party in front of me had ordered multiple things.

I would have understood if she had cut the line off earlier, but after waiting in the long line it felt like a slap in the face. If I’m there too late that’s fine. Don’t let me waste ten minutes of my life only to pull the rug out from under me. The employees saw the line when I got in and let me wait the entire time before kicking me out. I ended up at Yoga-urt nextdoor (delicious but not what I was craving). The party in front of me was out a minute or two after I was turned away, meaning I probably still would have been out of there before the posted closing time.

UPDATE: I was still craving shaved ice after this incident and eventually went back. It’s decent but I’ve had better in the Hokulia carts. The service was still pretty bad.

I’d highly recommend Yoga-urt next door especially over this...

UPDATE: I came a second time on a sunny day and really enjoyed the shaved ice. They make great ones, and I particularly liked that you can get free condensed milk and Li Hing (sp?) powder on top. I saw their response to my initial review that they close on rainy days, and I totally understand wanting to close with business slow, and now I know not to come when it's raining, but it's really not cool for people who walk through the rain to get there without knowing. A note on the door about the closure and reason for it would be helpful in the future.

Prior Review: Drove 15 minutes to get here and got my son pumped for some shaved ice. There was no parking nearby so we parked a block away and walked through the rain. Then the place was closed with no note, even though it was an hour before closing time. Because there was no note, we waited a while in the cold for it to open,...

Lost some major stars and points. Wife dog and I used to come here often. We would even get a little plain shaved ice free for my dog. Now they charge 2 bux even with out own bowl...? Also my wife's ice wasn't as flavor full and neither was mine. The mangonada used to be the best. Now it also lacked flavor. It seemed like the just poured it on the outside as the inside was all white...keep in mind at 4 in the after noon driving from Pasadena we were very dissatisfied...there is a soft serve place next door we never went to..next time we will go there instead...the new worker said they had new manager or management, can't remember. Figured. This place is going...
