The Sandwich Spot (Glendale) — Restaurant in Glendale

I really wanted to like this place. The food was pretty good and the staff was awesome. But the second I walked in, I got hit with the strongest scented candle I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant. And not a mild, cozy scent either. We’re talking full-blast cinnamon sugar vanilla. It smelled stronger than if a yankee candle store and bath and body works were side by side and both caught fire.

Smell is literally half the experience of eating, so I honestly have no idea why a sandwich shop would drown the entire place in a candle that completely overpowers the food. I couldn’t smell the bread, the meat, anything. Just the candle. Within minutes, I had a migraine starting, and I had to sit outside because it was unbearable to sit inside. As I’m writing this, I can still smell the candle on my clothes and I was inside all of ten minutes.

The sandwich itself was great, but the in-store experience was rough. Please, for the love of good food, ditch the candle and let the aroma of your food be what customers smell. Your sandwiches shouldn’t have to compete with a department-store...

Only tried it once. The flavors of the Raising Arizona were unbalanced and bland. The Alice Cooper was likewise unbalanced as the buffalo sauce was way too zingy. The ingredients seem above average quality wise, but both sandwiches seemed like they were missing something with an unbalanced flavor profile. The Oreo cheese cake was similar too soft, too cheesy without enough Oreo. I found myself drinking a lot of soda to get through my sandwich (which is a bad sign in my book). The chips were also meh. The whole meal felt expensive for what it was. I probably won’t go back, but customer service was excellent and I wish them luck! Just found this Glendale gem hidden in a plaza and I am so glad I tried it! I ordered a number 4 I think, the gin blossoms and it was so yummy and creamy!!! The cranberry gave the perfect amount of sweetness, too! And it was even better reheated the next day! The owners are super friendly and down to earth! They made me feel like I was a local regular already! And they have cool free stickers! Just give this place a try once and you’ll come back for the great customer service, food, and over...
