The folks at Kara's Korner are the nicest people on the planet. The service is so good. It's like they already know you even if you've never been in before. They are attentive and so willing to make your experience a good one. But...
The food.
Let me say that they have a big menu. Home favorites that you don't see anymore, like a Monte Cristo sandwich (yum!) and Liver and Onions (blech!). So many things that remind you of a diner in the midwest. You would hope the food would be delicious, but alas, it's average. The breakfasts are decent, and the soups are very good, but my husband and I have had many things on their menu (stuffed peppers, corned beef and cabbage, etc) and we come away feeling that something is really lacking. We want it to be yummy - but, sadly, it never has been. It's just... average. And be prepared to use salt because they don't.
I wish I could be more positive. The 4 stars is generous. I want to give it 2 or 3, but the service is so good I don't have the heart. This is a place your grandma would probably love. They do a lot of good work with veterans in the area and kudos to them for being so supportive of the community. I just wish their food was more flavorful.
Would I recommend it? Sure. Give it a try. My experience may not be your own. For the work they do in the community and their kind servers, I would definitely say go and support this local...
Read moreWow...what a delightful treasure hiding right in plain site! We've been driving past this location for years and never took the time to investigate, to our loss.
Located at the corner of Glendora Ave and Foothill in downtown Glendora, it's hard to miss this cozy little deli... unless you're me. My wife and I happened to be on Glendora Ave looking for somewhere to have dinner, but fortunately the first couple of places were closed. When we finally made our way to Kara's it was almost 9 (closing time) and there were only a couple customers still eating.
Surprisingly they let us have a table and gave us the full menu regardless of the late hour. The fact that we were outside due to Covid-19 restrictions somehow even served to make the night's dinner more delightful. I ordered fried liver, mashed potatoes and green beans, a course I had learned to love from my grandparents when I was 8. My wife got a roast beef sandwich, au jus with French fries. Both were very good and service provided was very friendly even for the late hour.
Finally, the prices were very affordable which honestly due to the location was a pleasant surprise.
All told I highly recommend Kara's, and we plan on going...
Read moreThis being my first visit, I must admit that the service here has surpassed my expectations. I was tempted to award them five stars primarily due to their attentive care for us and my furry companions. They even have menus for your pups. Our anticipation for an authentic Jewish deli-style sandwich was high; however, upon its arrival, we were disheartened by the meager meat portion in the sandwich. Furthermore, we were prompted to select our preferred sauces and condiments to compensate for the lack of fillings, resulting in a disappointingly dry experience. Having traveled extensively, I sincerely appreciate the consistency of Jewish deli sandwiches, where each is traditionally crafted to perfection without additional toppings. Additionally, the inconsistency in the tea service was evident when we started with raspberry tea, but they were later served regular tea, highlighting a lack of uniformity in their offerings.
I would be back to try their other offerings, and it is an excellent spot if you have your dogs with you; the outdoor seating...
