On the night before 4th of July, I ran from the town of Gloucester's Annual "Horribles Parade" (their version of July 4th Independence Day parade) to see the live music at 'The Studio' in Rocky Neck and grab a bite to eat.... I thought I could see some good live music while having an appetizer, and then run to see the fireworks on the west side of Rocky Neck, (or even head back to downtown Gloucester to see the fireworks show).... The Parade was very sweet, with many local families attending and kids catching thrown candies from passing Fire Trucks, local Footbal Teams and Cheerleaders, as well as local organizations and politicians.... It really was entertaining and different from an outsider's point of view - thoroughly enjoyed it! And after a great evening, I was looking forward to some good eats, and imagine my surprise when discovering there was no food left at 'The Studio'!! They must've had a busy night, what with 'Scudders' closed right down the street.... So there were no restaurants opened that night on the Main drag in Rocky Neck to grab a bite to eat! I ran into a fellow on the street on his phone trying to explain to the caller he couldn't find any food/take-out to bring home - the caller didn't believe him and asked me to confirm.... And I said "You just can't make this stuff up"!! The only saving grace was Christa, the new bartender there, who made a mean 'Rocky Neck Lemonade' - it was fabulous and ice cold! So I'll try the place again, as I hear the food is great; but too bad the manager didn't order enough food for the night before the holiday! And maybe they were short staffed - (or maybe he just wanted to let his staff go home early to watch the fireworks).... And I understand most people are having barbeques at home etc., and probably don't come out to restaurants; but for us tourists, it would be nice.... So I'll update sometime over the weekend and let you know how the food is (if it's not too crowded)..... And on a higher note, the Gloucester Fireworks were fabulous! A real slice of old-fashioned Americana.... 🇺🇸 Just what this writer was looking for! Happy Birthday...
Read moreWe'd give The Studio a 1.4 out of 5 stars. Honestly, the food was perfectly fine. We ordered several dishes, and they all tasted good, though the presentation was somewhat bland. The environment was clean and well-lighted, and sailboats, fishing vessels, and a blue horizon are visible from much of the dining area. Unfortunately, the management seemed a bit dismissive, if not curt. And, while the hostess was very cordial, she was not well-informed about the events or the seating arrangements. We made a reservation three days in advance to be seated at 5:45 near the musical guests advertised on The Studio's website (and in local media) to begin at 6PM. Having arrived at 5:44, we were not advised that those musicians would be replaced by someone of whom we'd never heard. He was fine, but we traveled 40 minutes in an Uber with a wheelchair to see someone else. So, of course, after ordering a big dinner for three, we were disappointed, to say the least. Note: do not bring a wheelchair to this restaurant -- none of the dining areas can accommodate more than 22 inches of width. We were seated where we had a nice view of the slightly rocky mudflats on one side and a table of mostly uncouth children on the other. Our server was not actually rude... she just never smiled and appeared not to have time for us. Besides that, we didn't order any wine, and our bill contained a charge of $10 for a glass of low-end Chardonnay. We ignored it, paid a 15%-tip, and got the heck out. It probably bears mentioning that we had to ask multiple times for extra bread ($2 for two small slices) and paid $16 for an order of chicken strips that are $8 on the menu. In short, we planned far ahead for an evening that was a relative disaster. With all the other restaurants available in Gloucester, surely this one was a mistake. Sorry, Gloucester; you can't...
Read moreThe location was beautiful I was very disappointed to find out along with the new management came along with new staff members that were just outwardly rude .I was ignored for over 20 minutes by bartender ,Whom was a young man flirting with the waitresses instead of tending bar not even sure he himself old enough to drink finally my husband and I got so fed up with him and went to the inside bar where we were greeted by two very friendly women bartenders, Nikki Apologized profusely for the lack of acknowledgment at the outside bar and quickly made me one of the best cosmos I have drank to date. I ordered the lobster mac & cheese and it was delicious compliments to the chef! They also now serve sushi ,The sushi took a bit to come out however that was explained to me when I ordered it, I got the volcano roll and it was also good however it was more like a desert ( timing is everything) the reason I am giving the studio a two as a local guide is because of the service it is truly that bad ! a $16 drink to be ignored by the bartender at the patio outside which is why let's face it most of us go there , although the bar inside is just his nice however on a summer evening nothing beats the Gloucester view , And I would pay 16 dollars all day for one of those cosmos, It's still does not sit right with me that I was ignored my husband opted to leave however I will not take this from the studio they do have good food, good drinks Great location however so do three other places in Gloucester, anytime I've ever gone before I have been greeted warmly With the exception of this recent time however bartenders on the inside saved the day , also when dining here make sure that you make a...
