I have no idea how this place has gotten good reviews. The food, while reasonably priced, is mediocre, but the service is terrible. We stopped in for breakfast this morning due to previous good reviews. The process of getting seated is pretty disorganized and they don't have much of a system setup for a waitlist. After we sat down we waited almost 30 minutes for anyone to say something to us. We had one server take our drink order before another one came along and asked the same thing (apparently they don't talk to each other much). Our food seemed to come out fairly quick, but we were missing some toast that should have come with one of our plates. Again, the food was okay but nothing exceptional. When we finally saw our server again we asked her for the missing toast, which then took another 20 minutes to get to us (toast must be a pretty hard thing for those people). We sat at our table for almost 30 minutes after finishing our meals without our server coming back. I finally had to ask someone who was clearing tables if he could get our check and a take-out box for us. We finally met our server again at the register. It seemed like she was a bit frazzled, so that might have been part of the problem, but this place is pretty small and it's not like she had a lot of people to wait on. She said at the register that she couldn't find our check, which wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't just waited for so long at the table (if she couldn't find it, she could have just come and spoke with us about it to save all that time). She was good enough to take an item off the tab for our wait, but then she stared at me while I was signing the credit card receipt before she tossed my copy at me and walked away in a very rude manner. I usually tip well and she seemed like she was having a hard day which made me more generous, but after her rude attitude I definitely regret tipping her as well as I did. I understand people can have crappy days, but they didn't appear to be understaffed and our server could have at least tried to make the time to check her tables to see how people's meals were progressing. I definitely do not recommend the...
Read moreMy partner took me here to eat after he and his hiking friend had tried it. They had come back raving about the food but annoyed that the waiter they had was astonishingly rude. I frequently side with waiters/waitresses because I used to be one... but after having brought it to the manager's attention the same waiter went back to their table and proceeded to loudly, verbally spite them for having gone to his manager. He finished with "oh or are you going to go report me to my manager again?" Apparently it was bad enough that the people at the tables nearby were alarmed and asked my partner if he was going to do something, because if he didn't they would. So when I went with my partner to eat here and we saw the same waiter, we said nothing and sat down ready to give him a fair chance without any negativity from the last time. I smiled at him and he did not smile, he looked at me, looked at my partner and the first words out of his mouth were "You can't pick on me today." This is over a month later. I couldn't believe that this guy is so stuck on something that he immediately set the tone as negative. We requested another server and the food was indeed as excellent as I'd been told it was. I truly have empathy and extra patience for servers... but for the manager to have previously very much agreed with my partner and his friend that that server's behavior was unacceptable, apologized to him and told him it was also that server's first day... and then for us to return to have begrudging attitude right away is just astonishing. Its a bummer because the food is SO good, the atmosphere is nice, and everyone else seemed to have great customer service. If this waiter had just let it go we would have never thought twice about it, tipped him well like we do because we see eating in a restaurant as a privilege, and gone about our day. We had not even left a nasty review after the first go around, but now we are not going to be return customers and hope other people don't have a poor experience with a waiter who diminishes the overall experience of an otherwise...
Read moreWe are local Golden residents who go out of our way to support our community. In fact, in the last four days i've spent over $1,000 eating at various Golden eateries--Golden Hotel, Cupcake Place, Mannies and Bo's, The Eddy hotel etc. I walked into the Golden Diner this morning with my 86 year old mother (i've eaten here many times at the counter) and seated ourselves per the hostess. People seated after us were served first, in fact, the couple seated next to us ( 3 of them) apologized that they got their food first and said something to the waitress--now mind you we eat in Golden every single day and understand things take a bit longer with the covid era--the service was lousy I cleaned my own table, asked the waitress over to place an order and we waited 50 or so minutes before the breakfast came to the table. The owner ( I assume) came over and said if we didn't like it (the wait) we could leave--there was only one chef--and I'm thinking wow this is what we get for supporting our community??? The food came it was missing stuff the waitress was awful and when she brought the bill she wrote TIP in large letters ( usually I tip at least 25% because I can and want to support the community---this is NO way to treat your customers who are supporting the community--we all know with Covid there are restraints -- I could have eaten breakfast anywhere.....I will NOT go back to this place and will encourage my local friends not to either. When we were done went next door and bought a dozen cupcakes! I bought some on Saturday too: My point: we will continue to support our local eateries but NOT the...
