I just finished breakfast at the Golden Diner. I had the country fried steak with two sunny side eggs and hashbrowns. The diner is a comfortable spot on 12th Street and has been there since 2009. When my meal arrived I was immediately struck by the wonderful aroma. I wasted no time digging into the steak with its gravy topping. I was not disappointed. The steak was lightly breaded and fried providing a crunchiness and a perfect foil to the tender steak. A yin and yang sort of thing. The eggs were basted in butter and cooked to perfection. The hashbrowns were formed into a thick patty and had a crispy brown crust but were soft and moist in the center. They were absolutely delicious. They complimented both the steak and eggs. My only regret about the diner is that it has been in existence for 12 years and I didn't know about it. I should also mention that even though they were busy the food came out of the kitchen promptly and hot. A rare event in these times of labor shortages. I would like to recognize my waitress, Makayla, who was very busy but always helpful with a smile. As she collected my plate Makayla asked "Was the food amazing?" Yes, Makayla it was! I will be back.

Picture it, I am sitting at a traditional diner bar, spinning stools and all. Straight ahead of me, I can see the cooks grilling away. The smell of baccon fills the air and makes your mouth water. Personally, I found the prices steap, but Golden is a tourist hub so affordability is hard to find. I ordereded a ham and cheese omlet with hashbrowns and a coffee. The hashbrowns are some of the best I've ever had. The crunch to mush ratio was perfect. I like my hashbrowns on the crispy side and they did not disapoint. I would have preffered a little more ham in my omlett, but after a sprinkle of salt and pepper on top of the gooey cheese, I gobbled it up. Boy, that was a damnnn good, fluffy, cheesey omlett. I will 100% order it again. I'm sure their menu has other delicious finds but I was so satisfied with this meal that I feel no need to venture anywhere else on the menu. Oh! To top it all off, they had an adorable server who was on top of the entire floor and chipper with everyone. He never let you see the bottom of your thick, classic coffee mug.

Sunday morning breakfast. This was a great choice. Cute diner downtown Goden, what's not to love. My biggest complaint would be I like diners to have a quaint, simplicity about them. A feel-good spot, if you know what I mean. I don't feel like The Golden Diner had that vibe. However, what they lack in grandma's kitchen feel they make up for with their food. I had the Dude. It was a HUGE portion. It was delicious. I like my green chili to have a bit more spice than the chili had but there were very solid flavors. I also had a side of smoked brisket sausage.... YES!!! That was 100% the highlight of my meal. the portion was generous, and the smoke flavor was incredible. My partner got the chicken fried steak. The gravy had to have been made in house (we found our diner, grandma comfort). It was exactly what you want from gravy. The chicken fried steak appeared to be hand breaded. If it wasn't they do good at what they do. Let's also not forget the mimosa. Go, go get a mimosa and smoked brisket sausage. Come back and thank me later.

I have no idea how this place has gotten good reviews. The food, while reasonably priced, is mediocre, but the service is terrible. We stopped in for breakfast this morning due to previous good reviews. The process of getting seated is pretty disorganized and they don't have much of a system setup for a waitlist. After we sat down we waited almost 30 minutes for anyone to say something to us. We had one server take our drink order before another one came along and asked the same thing (apparently they don't talk to each other much). Our food seemed to come out fairly quick, but we were missing some toast that should have come with one of our plates. Again, the food was okay but nothing exceptional. When we finally saw our server again we asked her for the missing toast, which then took another 20 minutes to get to us (toast must be a pretty hard thing for those people). We sat at our table for almost 30 minutes after finishing our meals without our server coming back. I finally had to ask someone who was clearing tables if he could get our check and a take-out box for us. We finally met our server again at the register. It seemed like she was a bit frazzled, so that might have been part of the problem, but this place is pretty small and it's not like she had a lot of people to wait on. She said at the register that she couldn't find our check, which wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't just waited for so long at the table (if she couldn't find it, she could have just come and spoke with us about it to save all that time). She was good enough to take an item off the tab for our wait, but then she stared at me while I was signing the credit card receipt before she tossed my copy at me and walked away in a very rude manner. I usually tip well and she seemed like she was having a hard day which made me more generous, but after her rude attitude I definitely regret tipping her as well as I did. I understand people can have crappy days, but they didn't appear to be understaffed and our server could have at least tried to make the time to check her tables to see how people's meals were progressing. I definitely do not recommend the...

My partner took me here to eat after he and his hiking friend had tried it. They had come back raving about the food but annoyed that the waiter they had was astonishingly rude. I frequently side with waiters/waitresses because I used to be one... but after having brought it to the manager's attention the same waiter went back to their table and proceeded to loudly, verbally spite them for having gone to his manager. He finished with "oh or are you going to go report me to my manager again?" Apparently it was bad enough that the people at the tables nearby were alarmed and asked my partner if he was going to do something, because if he didn't they would. So when I went with my partner to eat here and we saw the same waiter, we said nothing and sat down ready to give him a fair chance without any negativity from the last time. I smiled at him and he did not smile, he looked at me, looked at my partner and the first words out of his mouth were "You can't pick on me today." This is over a month later. I couldn't believe that this guy is so stuck on something that he immediately set the tone as negative. We requested another server and the food was indeed as excellent as I'd been told it was. I truly have empathy and extra patience for servers... but for the manager to have previously very much agreed with my partner and his friend that that server's behavior was unacceptable, apologized to him and told him it was also that server's first day... and then for us to return to have begrudging attitude right away is just astonishing. Its a bummer because the food is SO good, the atmosphere is nice, and everyone else seemed to have great customer service. If this waiter had just let it go we would have never thought twice about it, tipped him well like we do because we see eating in a restaurant as a privilege, and gone about our day. We had not even left a nasty review after the first go around, but now we are not going to be return customers and hope other people don't have a poor experience with a waiter who diminishes the overall experience of an otherwise...

We are local Golden residents who go out of our way to support our community. In fact, in the last four days i've spent over $1,000 eating at various Golden eateries--Golden Hotel, Cupcake Place, Mannies and Bo's, The Eddy hotel etc. I walked into the Golden Diner this morning with my 86 year old mother (i've eaten here many times at the counter) and seated ourselves per the hostess. People seated after us were served first, in fact, the couple seated next to us ( 3 of them) apologized that they got their food first and said something to the waitress--now mind you we eat in Golden every single day and understand things take a bit longer with the covid era--the service was lousy I cleaned my own table, asked the waitress over to place an order and we waited 50 or so minutes before the breakfast came to the table. The owner ( I assume) came over and said if we didn't like it (the wait) we could leave--there was only one chef--and I'm thinking wow this is what we get for supporting our community??? The food came it was missing stuff the waitress was awful and when she brought the bill she wrote TIP in large letters ( usually I tip at least 25% because I can and want to support the community---this is NO way to treat your customers who are supporting the community--we all know with Covid there are restraints -- I could have eaten breakfast anywhere.....I will NOT go back to this place and will encourage my local friends not to either. When we were done went next door and bought a dozen cupcakes! I bought some on Saturday too: My point: we will continue to support our local eateries but NOT the...
