This is the "Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives" of Grand Prairie, Texas. Really, it was that for Dallas for us this last weekend.
It was Sunday morning and we skipped the free breakfast at the hotel in favor of a "special" brunch place and did we ever get a great surprise.
Hidden behind regional and national retail/restaurants is an older strip center and tucked away at the back is "the" place that the locals cram themselves into on Sunday morning.
I'm thinking that the place probably has seating for over 200 people yet the atmosphere reminded me of the diners from the '60s and '70s that my grandparents took us to.
The menu is filled with very flavorful, reasonably priced dishes that remind you of excellent home cooking. The place is a family run business and while we had to wait a little over 15-minutes for a table, it was more than worth it.
Being that I am a San Antonio native, the food could be a little spicier but the flavor was just out of this world.
Since I will be visiting within a half hour of this place several times a year, it will be my "have to go and get great food place."
For three of us eating some of the more expensive entrees, having tea and coffee plus a 20% tip for the great service, we were out of there for a little over $50.00 which is a bargain for a...
Read moreThe waitress purposely made me repeat myself constantly due to being unable (unwilling?) to listen first.
Ordered a coffee, never got a refill... After waiting, being ignored, being stared at but with no service, being ignored some more... I decided the atmosphere wasn't pleasant enough to eat onsite (Spoiler, wasn't the PLACE, it was the STAFF)...
Thinking, let me order order some food to go then, right? After requesting and waiting for the never appearing coffee refill, I get up and go to pay the cashier for my order. I reasoned, I'll be able to leave as soon as the food comes.
The cashier wants to know why I have to pay now, "Why now, your is food is not ready." She questions me... for wanting to "pay ahead of receiving my food...?" The staff's communication and interactive skills are once again unprofessional, rude and stiff. I suddenly find I have to explain myself and why I'm running behind?
It was a simple request to pay, as I expected the food to be ready soon. I had been waiting for a quite awhile and so my patience was all gone.
If a customer, were to make a request (an 'unsual' request per say, yet a simple one wouldn't you (couldn't you), simply comply?
The answer is yes. Yes, you can. Whether you will or not shows your customer service. Or...
Read moreThe Good Day Cafe was a place we wanted to visit every time we drove past the billboard on I20, We finally made it, and now I'm asking myself why it took so long. These independent places have the best food, and Good Day did not disappoint. We were greeted right away with a smile. They had 2 servers on duty for the whole place, and they were phenomenal. They took care of everyone in a very professional manner. Even bilingual. They didn't even look stressed. Our waitress checked on us just enough but not too much. The food was very fresh and tasted amazing. I even took a picture of the jelly tray because most restaurants do not carry 4 types of jelly and all the sugar substitutes. I was full when I left and had a clean plate. The decor is inviting. Sure, you will notice some cleanliness issues, such as ceiling tiles, but it's the food that makes you forget about everything else. The coffee stayed hot till the very end. My omelet stayed hot till the last bite. We didn't do dessert since we were full, but the display by the register sure made me think about taking some home. We will definitely be back, and I highly recommend a visit to...
