The bar itself is mediocre but typically a pretty good standby bar when you want something local and divey. The bartenders I have interacted with have been pleasant and karaoke nights are enjoyable. The security staff and staff that act as security backup, however, ruin the entire experience. The first time I ever went to this bar I noticed that they let in several 19 year old girls who showed their horizontal, underage IDs, but refused to let in a 19 year old guy who did the same. Either way it's not okay to be letting in people who are underage, but it's especially messed up if you're making exceptions based on gender or level of attractiveness. More recently I witnessed the bouncer tell a potential customer that she was banned from the bar for leaving a 1-star review, then proceed to yell and curse at her friends who questioned his decision. The bouncer and one other employee pinned down and physically assaulted one of her friends as well. It is insane to me that the bouncer's ego is that fragile that he felt the need to make a scene, and that he had no shame in telling her his asinine reasoning, or physically fighting anyone who opposed. I'm sure they'll probably try to figure out who I am and make sure I never come back, but there's really no need because I...
Read moreLet's be serious: it's a pub, how can pub food be five stars? It is 5 star pub food. It's not on a Michelin scale, it's not a Gayot scale or even a AAA rating; it's 5 star pub food! I'm saying for pub food, you'll be hard pressed to find better around. As far as I can tell, most everything is made in house. Except maybe the anemic, but tasty, fried fish. Ask them to work on the poutine. It's close, but not quite right yet.
I docked for atmosphere, as it has that plain industrial vibe that says "we got drinks and we got food, the rest is Costco". It also has the acoustics of a salad bowl. There is a snails fart on the dial between hearing your conversation and not hearing your own thoughts: there is nothing in between.
The staff is golden. Always friendly, always helpful, and kinder and more tolerant than anyplace typically. How? Beats me. But I've seen some absolutely masterclass levels of customer service when they get the chance. But there it is: the chance. They are almost ALWAYS understaffed. Probably by design, but it is likely difficult to find good people who are also like minded in the service department.
Stop in for a pint and a burger. Get the garlic fries (a free upgrade worth twice the price) and strike up a...
Read moreWould have rated 5-stars if I had written this before tonight. Always have fun coming to the Fulton Street Pub & Grill. Tuesdays with trivia and new and different eclectic tacos on special and a couple cocktails makes for a fun night. Historically the staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. But none of the regular staff were here tonight. And not once the entire night did anyone come around and ask if I wanted anything to drink or wanted any food. And one of my trivia team had a "VIP Card", which went unnoticed, so he did not receive the perk. So despite maintaining our team status of third place (woot!), no dinner and nothing to drink put quite a damper on the evening. So if the game has changed at Fulton Street Pub & Grill and food is no longer being served after 8:00pm and the only way to get a drink is to go to the bar, please at least put a sign up and let customers know. The pic is the empty table....no drinks, no food because there...
