As a restaurant server who deeply prizes hospitality, I gotta say - nowhere does hospitality like [Robert at] Sheshco. Not anywhere!
I make my guests feel like neighbors or old friends. But Robert? He makes guests feel like some kind of royal dignitaries. He's always magnanimous and attentive. (Also kinda loud so you hear him greet everyone, which is amusing and endearing.)
Robert pays attention to kids and he follows up with guests (not abandoning them after seating them). This is how I can tell that hospitality is a personal value for him and not just a professional shtick or means to better tips. He is, in a much fuller sense than we're all used to, a "host" and not just a greeter/seater. I heard Robert training a new server to behave the same way: attention and kindness over productivity.
Servers at Sheshco are kind, gentle and respectful.
The food here is outstanding every time, and although it's pricey it is worth the money.
Delicious bread (a puffy sort of naan) with soft garlic is served quickly and it's heavenly. You just wanna take a nap on the pillowy bread. Entrees are even better: fresh, robust, generously portioned. Lentil soup is wonderfully smooth and tasty (I had never had it before) and chili is also smooth, mild and tasty.
My only minor gripe about the food is about the white onion served with the vegetable option... It needs to be either milder onions, cut smaller, or cooked longer; they're far too strong.
But overall, go try this place - you...
Read moreI have been coming to Sheshco for a number of years and have always thought the food was some of the best if not the best Mediterranean fare I've eaten in Western Michigan.
Our latest visit is the best. My wife and I were greeted by Robert with genuine exuberance and hospitality such I have not experienced in a long time.
As I ate my meal something continued to nag at my memory. There was something familiar about Robert. Something about his personality that stuck me. I knew a man named Bob about 43 years ago. He was about three years older than me (I was maybe 16-17 years old) and was an usher at the church I attended as well as sang at mass. People change physically in 43 years but that smile and personality of Robert's seemed familiar and lead me to ask questions about his back ground and had he been in hospitality most of his life etc... Yes, he had been in the hotel and restaurant industry off and on most of his career.
That's when I knew it was Bob from St Anthony's Parish. The same man who greeted me as an usher and made me feel welcome at 16 years old is still making people feel better about their day now and me at almost 60 years old.
I cannot express how truly lucky and fortunate Sheshco is to have Robert on their staff. He is a one of a kind individual endowed with a true servants heart. Hospitality must be his middle name. I look forward to my next visit and seeing Bob...
Read moreGood food; disappointing service and pricing. My wife and I dined here for the first time. The menu has pretty much something for everyone, although I don't recall seeing seafood on the menu at other Middle Eastern restaurants. The food is prepared fresh to order. In addition to the freshness, the food is packed with flavor. Our server, however, was disappointing While he knew the names of things on the menu, he was unfamiliar with what they actually were. For example, he could not describe how chicken shawarma was made or what Yemeni tea was. While the portions of the entrees and appetizers were generous and sharable, the single serving of baklava was pretty small. The Yemeni tea was tasty and while the Arabic coffee was beautifully served, it was weak and did not have much of the coffee grounds/sludge to allow for "reading." Major gripes: the actual prices at the restaurant are higher than what is posted on their website. For example, the falafel plate is advertized at $8.99 and they charged me $10.99. The chicken Shata was also $3 more plus they charged $2 for the tabbouli even though a salad was supposed to have been included. They also add a credit card surcharge to the bill. This latter fee showed up on the first check before they knew whether or not I would use one, so I don't know if they would remember to remove that charge if...
