(This is a delivery review, seeing as Grubhub glitched and won't let me review there. ) So I paid 11.99 for general tso's chicken, & 3.50 for cheesecake (which doesn't matter but adding for detail purposes) and a 2 dollar delivery charge (which I'm not sure is included in the food price or not, because 2$ is a pretty cheap delivery price, not that I'm complaining of a cheap delivery rate- haha).
*Timing: SUPER fast delivery, a full half hour before I was told it was going to be here! Super friendly guy who actually (unlike many for some reason) actually used my cell # and called me to help direct him. Had a wonderful attitude/warmth and was very timely.
*Food: I will say this, I was given a large amount- probably could fill two large stomachs and maybe three regular eaters stomachs- so it's a good amount and begins to even out the price for sure. And I was given a large size of white rice for the side. So the general tso's meal with rice could easily support dinner for three friends/family members.
My only complaint is the quality, I guess. I asked for spicy, I never get spicy, even when I ask- Though there's no surprise there in yankee-land. sigh But the food just tasted like sweet and sour sauce, out of a jar or made ahead of time and sat to become one single taste, I dont know. It was just mediocre. I go to this place down leonard on the west side, a mom and pop shop, and the same plate costs 7 bucks and the food, dear lord, their general tsos, while most is prepared a bit ahead of time as with any place you order such food, it still tastes home made. I can taste the difference and texture wise between the chicken and its outer breading/layer- which you should anyways. And the sauce tastes homemade, I can taste different ingredients in it. I've made homemade general tso's before, so I know some of the flavors to look for. Now that I know good American Chinese, I've come to expect it. If a mom and pop shop can do it, you can too. I don't care about the prices, but if I pay 12 bucks, I might generally expect it to taste a bit closer to the real deal. The rice was also dry. Not a big deal to me, but another added detail.
*Accuracy: Perfect, had everything I asked for, still pipe'n hot.
Overall, it's still a good place to go- just not up to snuff flavor wise. Still better than most places- It is what it is. But have a nice, detailed, honest review...
Read moreWe went in on January 7 and we were promptly seated and given water. It kind of falls apart from there. We sat for about 10 minutes before we were finally able to flag down the server and let her know we wanted to order an appetizer and drinks (tea) while we waited for the other three people in our party. Our tea comes out, mind you it's a cup of green tea and not a pot at the price of a pot at any other really nice sushi place, and then the rest of our party arrives. When our server returns to get everyone's order, we find out that they do not have a liquor license and thus no one can drink. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU TELL SOMEONE BEFORE SEATING THEM! So the other three people are immediately unhappy and had we not already ordered an appetizer we would have given her $5 and left. We opted to stay and order even though the people joining us had joined us for drinks. When our food came out, the server dropped it off and walked away. We assumed she was leaving for a plate for my curry. My rice was in a small bowl and the curry was in a single serving chafing dish (bowl that has a candle under it for heat...it was connected together), and there was no room in either dish for the other food. When we realized she wasn't coming back, I told everyone else to go ahead and eat and after a couple minutes I was able to flag her down and ask for a plate. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ASK FOR A PLATE! She brought me a small plate you'd give someone for sharing an appetizer. Best part is, I never got silverware, so I have to use chopsticks to eat green curry and tofu with rice....off an appetizer plate! When it was time to leave I asked for a to go container, because I hadn't made much progress in my food. She brought one, but still didn't give me a spoon or anything to assist in moving the curry over. As someone who spent years in the food and beverage industry, we opted to still tip decent even though the service was awful. It will be a long time before we even consider going back. They have a LOT of work to do still from a...
Read moreTwo moments spent in this restaurant, was enough to make a proper review.
Initially, I left this establishment with a sour taste in my mouth for the unaddressed misunderstanding. But, after my second time there, my perspective has changed.
The atmosphere is roomie. There is rarely too many people there to make things claustrophobic. Even in its busiest hour, the tables are perfectly spaced to make sure there is ample breathing and walking room. The interior design mimics the bold exterior, with a primary red as it's leading color and black and gold as its accent. They offer booth and chair for seating and a variety of sized tables.
The staff was very kind and frequent with their check-ins. They didn't hover, but they ensured that we were taken care of. The only hiccup we had was that our wait time was a little longer than expected, but the server continued to give us constant updates to make it know that we were not forgotten.
The food is where we need to get descriptive; The food is outrageously underpriced for what you are receiving. They offer week day lunch specials and weekend dinner specials that are "all-you-can-eat". The price varies on age, but they're extremely reasonable (Lunch: 14.99, Dinner: 25.99 EST). Compared to their regular menu and its prices, it's an absolute steal to take them up on their special.
I had a Special Salmon Roll and a Green Dragon, and both were to my liking. Their portions were in good size, and their taste was just as well off. They offer a sizeable amount of options to include ramen bowls, Deep-fried sushi, fries, stir-fry, and more. I am a huge fan of sashimi, and ended up ordering 16 pieces in total of everything they had to offer; I was not disappointed.
I highly recommend this place if you're from out of town or local. With the pricing, staff, and atmosphere, you will not...
