I have to be honest here and say that I actually created a Yelp account so that I could publicly express my experience as it relates to this establishment. And this is not the first bad experience that I've had in a restaurant so one might have to surmise that it was so overboard that I was left close to speechless.
I visited Flips on Saturday evening with a friend. We sat at the bar and ordered chicken nachos (for me) and a burger / ribeye for my friend. Next to us were two "gentlemen", one of whom seemed very (very) interested in whether me and my friend were dating. (More on this later).
The food arrived. Burger was overcooked. My friend decided that based on the vibe from the bartender, chances of getting it redone were nil. So he said nothing. My nachos were okay except they had no chicken on them. We expressed said fact to the bartender who, clearly annoyed (or amused with himself), proceed to use his FINGER to POKE around the nachos, play acting as if he was searching for chicken.
Yes. I had secretly hidden it all under the cheese and jalapeños.
Anyway, he walks away, no apology that I can recall and leaves us with the nachos. A few minutes later, he arrives with a small bowl of what I assume was microwaved, dried out chicken that resembled the old subway faux-chicken (rubber texture and all). He then DUMPS the bowl on top of my nachos, as if I was his pet pig or dog, with chicken running all over the place.
I have never quite seen anything like this in my life. Even with my pets, I use more finesse when serving them. At this stage, the dude to my left has not shut up, continuously sharing his thoughts on why I should be having sex with the friend that I am trying to dine with. My friend is trying not to blow up at this guy, for fear of having a major incident. "Why are you not dating? You should be doing it together? Why don't you guys do it? Why don't you date her?"...and on and on.
My friend, in shock, begins to mimic the bartender dumping the food on us. The "gentleman" to my left explains that HE is a regular. THIS silly chain restaurant is apparently for "regulars" only and he proceeds to let us know that if we continue our complaints and/or don't leave a sufficient tip, we should not come here and eat the food again. He inferred that the staff would purposely poison / make us sick. Drinks though, seemed okay to him. Drink but don't eat. So says the REGULAR.
And you know what? WE BELIEVED HIM. So we left.
I took the time to look up who owns this spot. That man apparently ran his restaurants as (his words) "a hobby". Not shocked to hear it. He's now passed away.
Someone named Martin Meier is the current President. Well Martin, you owe me and my friend, whose money you took, a giant apology. We are both livid and disgusted.
I'm equally disgusted and annoyed that instead of contacting me and attempting to resolve the situation, my original Yelp review was buried. These people don't care about customer service or...
Read moreHere is my email. And my explanation as to why I just had an awful experience. I just tried to eat at the establishment here in Grapevine. I had your manager on duty pull me to the side and tell me that it has been a long time since I've been there but I am banned. I have never been inside that restaurant before in my life and I looked at her I said I assure you I've never been here but I'm more than happy to leave. If this is gonna be a problem I don't know who you think I am, but I have never in my life been here. she proceeds to roll her eyes at me and say well "My bartender just confirmed that that's you" and then asked me for my name to which I gave her my name and I then repeated to her. I have never been here before so I don't know what your bartender is confirming. That led to her saying well apparently I had said nasty things to a general manager that works there that I have never met before and that they would serve me this time but they might take legal or further actions once the manager or general manager got there as if they were going to charge me with a crime that I didn't commit they didn't even know my name they couldn't give me the name of the person they were looking for and I literally just came in because it looks like a cool place from the highway ... I even offered as much to walk her out to my car because if she knew it the person's car that they think that I look like looks like they can possibly tell from my license plate I don't know I don't appreciate the way that I was treated. I am a 25 almost 26-year-old woman that owns my own company. I am autistic and, I was so upset that I just finished my drink and left immediately. I just wanted to sit down and do my schoolwork but I left with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth and not only the bartender, but your manager that was wearing the blue shirt being discriminatory, and honestly very disrespectful to somebody with an invisible illness they may not know that, but they definitely made an assumption of who I was and I paid the price for that.I will be in contact with some of my friends about my next actions to take, because I am absolutely appalled at the way that I was treated and I do not believe that anyone else should have to go through that. Looking forward to...
Read moreThis was my first time to Flips. I felt like this place was mediocre. Partly I think it was because of the wait staff (heavy set girl). Her service was average and kinda seemed to be a bit inconvienced to explain about the different burgers when I had a question (it seemed like she wanted to rush off, even though they weren't that busy; I would guess less than 20% full).
When I asked for the raspberry ice tea, I told her I preferred unsweet tea. But she used sweet tea anyway, which made it too sweet and undrinkable. Luckily there was another server nearby (with orange highlights) that saved the day when I asked her if she could change out my drink. When she returned she waited for me to taste it before she left (to ensure the sweetness was to my liking).
My daughter ordered the Texas sized mozzarella sticks (she wasn't that hungry). And I ordered the cheeseburger with the Akashi beef upgrade for my party, all on sourdough bread. I thought the burger was good, but not sure if the Akashi beef made a significant difference. The mozzarella sticks were melted and goey and larger than you'd find at most restaurants; we got three large sticks.
My original server's other issue was when I got the check and also asked her to provide me with a To-Go glass of Ice Tea. Again, it appeared like I was inconviencing her bit by asking. She gave us our check and credit card back. I gave her a 15% tip. But she never brought me the To-Go ice tea I requested before we left (I'm sure that was probably on purpose, as the place wasn't very busy).
The atmosphere was like a traditional, rustic kinda place; with dim lighting. That's probably a personal preference whether you enjoy this kind of atmosphere; nothing that stood out for me.
Maybe I'm being a bit picky, but I this is not one place I would want to come back to spend my money. I'm surprised management doesn't realize that the wait staff is a critical part of the overall dining experience. In conclusion, this was an average place to get a burger; and not much else to...
