Today, I visited the newly opened (it's been a few months I believe) Velvet Taco location near my house, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. As a vegetarian, I was excited to discover that they had introduced a new item to their menu, the #5.5 Mediterranean mushroom taco. Eager to try something different, I ordered the #4 Nashville hot tofu, which I had previously enjoyed at a different Velvet Taco location, along with the new mushroom taco.
Upon receiving my order for dine-in, I was immediately drawn to the mushroom taco. I snapped a quick photo for my Google Maps review, as I'm an active local guide, and proceeded to devour the entire mushroom taco since it was my first time trying it. I anticipated the flavors and textures of portobello mushrooms, expecting a dense, meaty texture and satisfying chewiness.
However, when I turned my attention to the tofu taco, I noticed that it looked slightly different. Upon closer inspection, I was surprised to find shredded chicken instead of tofu. Concerned about the mix-up, I promptly approached the counter and inquired if they had served me the correct taco. They acknowledged the mistake and assured me that they would replace it with the tofu version. I returned to my seat, assuming it was an isolated error with only half of my order.
To my dismay, another staff member approached me and asked how I enjoyed the first taco, stating that it was a steak taco. I was taken aback and disturbed by the realization that I had unknowingly consumed meat. Distressed by the situation and feeling a sense of guilt based on religious and trust grounds, I expressed my dissatisfaction.
The staff member kindly provided me with a refund and offered a few complimentary food coupons for future use at any Velvet Taco location, which I intend to give to my meat-eating friends. While their attempt to rectify the situation was appreciated, the incident left a lasting negative impression on me. The confusion with my order and the mix-up of ingredients not only compromised my dietary preferences but also eroded my trust in the establishment.
Regrettably, I don't think I will be able to revisit this particular Velvet Taco location or any other Velvet Taco establishments in the future. It is essential for a restaurant to prioritize accuracy and integrity, especially when it comes to accommodating dietary choices. I hope that they take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to prevent similar incidents from happening to other customers...
Read moreBeing from California, there is no shortage of Hispanic and Latin flavors from the northern side of California to the southern end. On my first trip to Texas, this is where my friend took me to get a taste of the flavors with a twist. From the outside looking in, this location doesn't look like much. Parking lot is tiny and the storefront itself. But walking in, I was pleasantly surprised. The layout is perfect for the spot however the downfall is that it will get packed, so arrive early or prepare to wait until seating is available. But there is also outdoor seating as well. Everything on the menu looked great but we settled on four tacos: chicken and waffle, rotisserie chicken, steak, and the salmon. All of them were perfectly seasoned. I was really excited for the chicken and waffle and when it came out, very impressed with the shell which was in fact a waffle. The syrup on the chicken was perfect. The only thing I was upset about was that the shells broke apart so easily. This makes sense because the tacos were loaded and soaked with flavor. But the one item that stole my heart...now that's the appetizer, the one and only elote x chips with cheese. Great cheese with the sweetness of the corn and the saltiness of the chip. Genius. Definitely a must try. Not in Fort Worth? Don't worry they have locations in Atlanta, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and...
Read moreComing from a town without many good taco places, this was a real treat. We got our chips just a few minutes after ordering. They weren’t anything amazing, but still a must for the full taco spot experience.
We got three sides with the chips. The guacamole was just okay, and the salsa was unique but also just okay. The elote, though absolutely amazing. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Overall, the sides were mid-tier, with the elote standing out.
Now the tacos these were the stars. I went with a friend, and we tried the shrimp, chicken tikka, and salmon tacos. We got them about ten minutes after ordering.
The first photo is the shrimp taco absolute banger. 10/10. One of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The shrimp was cooked perfectly.
The chicken tikka taco was also a 10/10. A little spicy, but in the best way super flavorful.
The salmon taco (third photo) was the weakest of the three. I’d give it a 6/10. As someone who really likes salmon, it was a bit of a letdown. Still, if you’re into salmon, it might be worth trying.
Overall, I’ll definitely come back. I would love to try the other tacos they offer. Only downside was the atmosphere it was really loud with kids screaming nonstop. We went at 3 p.m., but since they’re open late, I’d recommend going later for a...
