Generous Joe's Deli — Restaurant in Greenbelt

This review will be the first I've ever written for a restaurant, but my experience today was so negative in all aspects I'm compelled to share. I was "greeted" at the counter with no words at all, just a disinterested stare. When I asked if there were usual condiments for a cheeseburger, the response was, "What do you want?" I asked for lettuce, pickles and tomato. After checking 5 or 6 tables to find one that looked clean, I wetted toilet paper from the restroom and wiped one down myself. (The restroom does not have hot water.) When the food came, instead of walking around and setting it on the table, the employee stopped next to a table in the next row and leaned over to precariously pass it to me in midair. It didn't have any tomato so, when I took it to the counter and asked if they had tomato, the employee simply looked at her own written order and said, "You didn't ask for tomato." I repeated my question regarding the availability of tomato. No response. The employee picked up two small pieces of tomato with her fingers, walked to the counter, and placed them on the plate. The top bun was burned so I didn't eat it. Instead, I ate only the partially-cooked burger. When I left, I looked behind the counter and the two employees on duty were sitting on food-prep surfaces using their phone devices. Unfortunately, this experience was largely representative of Generous Joe's over the past year. Lastly, despite what the website states, staff do not wear masks, no safety barrier exists at the counter, and staff do not wipe down surfaces between customers. It used to be an OK place...

This place was a childhood favorite of mine but I have to say that coming back for the nostalgia has been a major mistake. This restaurant is getting away with a down right dirty and unsanitary bathrooms. After a long a drive I ordered my food and headed straight for the smallest bathroom known to man, only to find a horrible stench and greasy and icky floor that I regretted ordering food in the first place. I couldn’t stomach using the bathroom and decided to turn around and only notice the rest of the area was overrun by flies and dirty tables along with hot and sticky air. I decided to wait outside for my food as it felt cooler in mid 80 degree weather. The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars is because the steak and cheese I ordered was just like I remembered it, amazing, flavorful and an awesome cheese pull. The old bay fries were super heavy on old bay and I love that. The bun was a little too toasted on the edges making it hard and inedible but I can see what they were going for. The location must hire a professional cleaning person and have the bathroom completely sanitized and throughly cleaned on a weekly basis because from what I can tell, no one has cleaned that...

For my First time I have to say I REALLY enjoyed the food. I ordered a Steak and Cheese sub with extra meat thx to the suggestion of the person who took my order telling me it was their most popular. And that's my favorite anyway. Definitely loved it and will be trying other sandwiches from there. I also ordered a shrimp basket which came with steak fries and cole slaw. Even though the fried shrimp was a little overdone it tasted good. Sadly my fries were a little soggy but that's probably because it's difficult to keep them fresh and crunchy when delivering from really ANY PLACE. They still tasted good though. Everything was on time and the delivery driver was cool 👍 Only reason for the 4 stars is the shrimp. Maybe 2-3 were kind of...
