If I could give 1/2 star I would. I visited this restaurant that was highly recommended, and had all these stars from y'all. These stars must've came from family and friends! Because the restaurant was dirty, the menu was very limited and confusing. The owner and his son were very rude . His shirt looked like he had slept in it and worn it for 3 days! He wore no apron, no gloves no hair net! During our current Covid plague I would like to see my cook have on an apron at least!! Not an old dirty shirt that look like he slept in it for 3 days!! My mother would like to know,,how can you eat a sandwich with no buns! ? Also he got very defensive when I asked him what type of fish he was frying (only ask him that because I would like to have had some catfish) So at $4 per sandwich , his attitude and his poor personal hygiene, I told my mother to just cancel this sandwiches and we would go get a Donato sub. That was delicious and actually had buns! Here comes the good part!!ready folks!?? When we canceled the sandwiches and got outside, got in our vehicle and was ready to go ,,,and here he came, !!! Charged out of that restaurant like a raging bull, ran over to us and verbal assaulted my elderly mother and I! I thought I was going to have to call the police , so I got mad and told him to " clean up your act " and my mother told him" be friendly to your customers!" I'll tell you something ! From now on,, its long John...
Read moreWe pulled up and it was lunch time , not a soul was in there but the owner , I'm not sure and a worker or maybe a family member..I said , why isn't there anyone in here ?he answered with a hint of anger , and informed me that he had been there 61 years ! Good enough for me , so I told my husband and some homeless girl we were giving a ride..just kidding , my friend, that 61 years was a long time ..I was hungry , so we ordered fish sandwiches and I got a side of clams , and mammaw ordered tots with her sandwich and hubby ordered fried mushrooms..he brings it to us and it looked like it was lunch time on a Saturday at the kiddie table. The fish was small and the bun was too..mammaw got 4 tater tots , I was going to ask her for one but I knew that's all she was going to eat because the fish was raw and tasteless and a side of mushrooms, amounted to about 5 and they were not big ones..when I showed him my fish was raw , he got mad and I could hear them complaining because we complained about our horrible lunch ! He brought me another sandwich but it was just not good fish , and he said that that's the way they prepared and the nex t time I come in , I should ask for it well done..I wouldn't go in there again if I was dodging hail ! I worked at Red Lobster for 10 years , I know fish way better than that grouch ! 61 years ..no way ..no way !...
Read moreDelightful, small, local family-owned restaurant that has apparently been in business now for over five decades. (Wow!) The woman running the front end is an utter delight and is obviously passionate about the restaurant and it’s history in town.
While the decor is not necessarily anything that will ever cause one to write home about, it has that warm everyman’s-food atmosphere that has a way of endearing itself to you no matter the ambiance.
The food is decent, if you know the regional fare. The onion rings were surprisingly good! I would come back just for those, given the opportunity. In keeping with the aforementioned regional fare theme, fish is battered and deep fried. While I personally prefer the taste of a beer based batter, it was homemade and the fish was cooked almost perfectly. Next time through I’ll be looking for the Oysters they apparently pick up straight from Virginia. ...
