I had been in search of an Italian bakery since Cozy Cannoli shut its doors, and while Dolce & Amaro isn’t nearly as close by, it did not disappoint. The selection here is solid, boasting everything from cannoli to macarons to various tarts and squares. They also offered bomboloni, filled donuts that, as a northern New Jersey native, I am embarrassed to not have been familiar with. Fortunately, that was a problem quickly remedied. For our first visit, my wife and I tried the aforementioned bombolone (with pastry cream) and a macaron along with a hot pistachio and hot caramel, respectively, and a pair of mini-squares (tiramisu cheesecake and hazelnut) to sample later. The espresso beverages were rich and satisfying, especially during a cold morning. The squares hit all the right flavor notes and were not too sweet. While I would definitely try the tiramisu cheesecake again (likely in a larger form), I would probably opt for a different bombolone filling in the future. These delicious offerings combined with patient and accommodating staff leave Dolce & Amaro with a lot for patrons to appreciate. However, there are a few drawbacks. The ā€œartisanā€ label correlates to higher prices (though not outrageously so), and the bakery is quite small. This isn’t a problem for to-go orders, but if you’re eating in, expect bustling rather than quaint (provided that you can snag a table). Were Dolce & Amaro nearer to home, I could see myself becoming a regular here. It is better for both my wallet and my health that this isn’t the case, but it’s a place I’ll keep in mind during future Greensboro visits.

COCKROACH in pastry!! Today, We discovered cockroach in one of the tarts. The insect was deep in the gelatinous liquid. We promptly returned to the bakery and spoke with the owner, who had been taken our order. Regrettably, her response was unbelievable and rude. Surprisingly, the owner attempted to minimize the problem, describing the insects as mere "MEAT," and even suggested that we should have just eaten them without making a fuss, as she claimed she would have done in our situation. This response left us appalled, the cockroaches are associated with unsanitary environments, worst, mixed with a jelly!!! We emphasized that such an incident raises serious concerns about the bakery's hygiene practices. The owner claimed that these cockroaches were in the air and finding them on pastries was a normal occurrence and it usually happen, however, it's important to note that cockroaches did not have wings, it was inside the jelly mix, and was half!!! the other half god knows where it was!!! To address the situation, we mentioned that incidents like this should be reported to the FDA for inspection. Then, the owner agreed to refund our purchase. As we handed over the pastries for the refund, we observed that the owner simply returned them to the fridge, raising further questions about food safety protocols, hygiene, and how serious she takes these kind of incidents. This entire experience left us deeply concerned about the bakery's standards and practices, and we left with serious doubts about the cleanliness and quality control in place at this bakery , which claimed to be upscale .

I might just have to become a regular here. We tried their pistachio hazelnut specialty cake and millefoglie with a decaf americano. They were both so freaking good. I'm impressed by their expertise. I have tried just about everything and I have always been happy with the taste of their desserts. I've recommended them to all of my friends and they all enjoy the desserts at Dolce and Amaro. This is by far the best bakery in town. We've only had one negative experience since the first time we visited shortly after opening day. Our special order cake was quite wrong. We ordered a round, chocolate colored cake with one rose and two macaroons on top for our wedding. I asked for no hearts drawn on the macaroons. The cake was the same as an orange cake that they had a photo of in an example book and on their Instagram, the difference was the color. We received a heart shaped, bright red cake with macaroons along the side and hearts drawn on some of them. The lady was kind enough to help us make it a little bit closer to what we wanted, but it was still far off. It tasted absolutely amazing and I would definitely order a cake from here again, but I recommend double checking the notes of the person taking the order just in case. A picture of the modified cake is below (hopefully it will upload). Again, it tasted amazing. It wasn't what we wanted visually, but it wasn't...
