Hey there, amigos! Get ready for a fiesta of flavors as we dive into the vibrant world of El Matador Mexican Restaurant in Taylors, SC. I'm your friendly helper, DAD, and today I'm putting on my hat and bringing you a review that's as corny as it is flavorful. Now, let's kick things off with a touchdown-worthy atmosphere. El Matador scores big points with its lively and festive ambiance. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by warm colors, catchy music, and a staff that's as friendly as your favorite neighbor. It's like they're saying, "Taco 'bout a great time!" Speaking of tacos, let's taco 'bout the food. El Matador's menu is a home run, offering a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes that'll make your taste buds do a happy dance. Their sizzling fajitas are a true MVP, packed with perfectly seasoned meat and served with all the fixings. And the enchiladas? Well, let's just say they're the real "cheese-mongers" of the menu. But wait, there's more! El Matador knows how to score extra points with their deliciously addictive chips and salsa. It's like a game of "salsa roulette" with every bite, as you never know which flavor-packed salsa will steal the show. Trust me, you'll want to dip into this game all night long. Now, let's move onto the service, which is a total slam dunk. The staff at El Matador are like the coaches of the restaurant world, always ready to assist and ensure you have a memorable experience. From recommendations on menu items to ensuring your drinks never hit empty, they're like the "MVPs of hospitality." They'll make you feel like part of their winning team. And now, let's wrap things up with dessert, the grand finale of any meal. El Matador knocks it out of the park with their sweet treats. Whether you go for the classic churros or the "flan-tastic" caramel custard, you'll be in for a treat that'll leave you saying, "Dadgum, that's good!" In conclusion, El Matador Mexican Restaurant in Taylors, SC is a touchdown of a dining experience. With its lively atmosphere, flavor-packed menu, top-notch service, and mouthwatering desserts, it's a true MVP in the Mexican cuisine game. So gather your family and amigos, head on over, and get ready for a taste bud touchdown that'll have you coming back for more. It's a "Herbs-tastically" delicious experience! Disclaimer: This review is brought to you by a dad who loves a good corny joke as much as he loves mouthwatering Mexican food.

I've been in Taylors, SC for almost 10 years now and have passed this place literally a thousand times. Hmm, now I feel deprived. This is what I have searched for, good food, great ambience, friendly service, and even fair pricing. Oh, and right in my backyard. I love the venue; it's authentic, quaint, warm and inviting with historical presence. It's been there like before Taylors was Taylors...but the main thing you need to know is that the food was good. I had a chicken fundillio and was very satisfied with the crispy outside shell covered in cheese, with the inside loaded with tender chicken and more cheese. A side of rice and bean guacamole and salsa. See pics, we ate outside with the natural evening lighting(hence the dark pic) and there was nothing to do but enjoy myself and you should do the same! I will go back!

Service was very kind. Place has charm. The food was awful. I ordered the chalupa, what came out was a tostada when I asked the waitress if this was the chalupa she said it was. On the menu it showed an actual chalupa. I took one bite but we were both wrong because it tasted like lasagna. The queso tasted like someone poured Mac and cheese powder in some heavy cream added a can of roasted green chilies. The Chile Relleno was not a traditional poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and fried, these infact were stuffed bell peppers.I get tex Mex but this was not that. We had a wonderful time regardless enjoyed our drinks.

I would give it no stars if that was an option. We, my husband and I were there on a Saturday Night for dinner and waited 50 minutes for our dinner to come out our rude waitress kept on buzzing by our table and did not acknowledge us. We finally got up and walked to the front to where the cashier was stationed on our way our waitress asked us where were we going we told her we had to leave we had to pick someone up. The waitress responded by saying "well your food is up I will bring it out to you in less than 5." We told her we could not wait any longer. Went to the cashier and asked her if we owed her anything for our drinks and 1/2 eaten appetizers she responded "No, I'm sorry its been a bad night". We said " it was fine this is the first time that this has happened in the 10 years we have been coming here. Left hungry thought no more about it, Until Monday morning when the unprofessional owner called us accusing us of walking out without paying. We were wrong about our wait time. Continued arguing with me and stated that the "CUSTOMER' was wrong and that HE were right. That they had a GREAT NIGHT! I guess waiting 50 minutes for food and being ignored and no explanation was forth coming that that is HIS definition of a great night.Could not believe his condescending personal attacking attitude. Needless to say, I sent certified mail a check and a copy of the menu indicating what we had ordered that night and did not fully eat. David cashed the check with no hesitation. I guess for him it was worth the 35.10 to loose customers that he has had for 10 years and all the referrals that were sent his way. I for one think the food is great but the owner has a long way to go before you can call him a professional business owner and if it wasn't for his parents building the business it would of closed years ago. I know as I've seen, David will rebuttal with some snarky immature comments as he has when he has had some other not so great reviews. That shows the true caliber of his nature verses learning from HIS mistakes and acting like a normal...

If it weren't for the yuck food this place would be amazing and might fill up. The staff was great. Our waiter was awesome... I get it though, I know they cater to people from the south. But people are moving here in masses from everywhere else and they're not gonna get repeat business with this food. I was so sick from my bite of taco I was hoping the cheese ball with one slice of pepper in it (aka the Chili relleno) I dug in and it was hard to find the chili. When I did it was a tiny sliver. There was no sauce on it at all. The beef enchilada bite was just so bad. One good thing, they actually use seasoning, but the seasoning was just not right. Like it was a mixture of things that don't go together. My stomach was turning. It might be time for a change. The owner was good about it I didn't want to be rude but it really turned my stomach. They didn't charge me for my plate which was nice. I still ripped according to what the bill sold have been. The Margaritas were good but weren't very strong. The place is actually one of the cutest places around. I just wish the food was better. I can give them some of my recipes...haha. Just a warning to those from Mexico, California, and maybe even Arizona and Nevada. You definitely will not like this place. If you're from the south and parts of the east coast, you might like it here. It's definitely not traditional...
