We recently stumbled upon the Marathon while visiting the art gallery next door. To our embarrassment, we had driven past it for over a year, assuming it was closed due to its dimly lit interior and lack of visible parking. As lovers of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, we excitedly ventured in to give it a try.

To our delight, we discovered a hidden gem that we had been missing out on for far too long! The restaurant offers an extensive menu, ranging from traditional Greek dishes like chicken kabobs and gyros to more familiar options like burgers, salads, and pizza. The homemade Greek salad dressing, perfectly cooked chicken, and delectable gyros were accompanied by mouthwatering pita bread, heated and coated with a special something that truly sets it apart.

Looks like Marathon has a full bar and a warm, inviting atmosphere with charming wood paneling, street-level windows, and an abundance of plants reminiscent of cozy local restaurants in Alaska and Canada. The clean, comfortable environment is further enhanced by the exceptionally welcoming staff who contribute to the overall positive energy of the place.

Not only is the food exceptional, but the prices are also incredibly reasonable. With fountain drinks under $2 featuring the highly sought-after crushed ice, it's a refreshing change from the overpriced and under-flavored options found at other establishments. The French fries, served hot and crispy with just the right amount of salt, are the best in town. Pair them with a sweet and affordable Baklava for a truly satisfying snack.

Our entire family has fallen in love with Marathon, making it our new go-to spot for delicious food and great company. With prices skyrocketing everywhere else, Marathon's prices remain reasonable, while their food is always served promptly and with great care. ...

My first experience at Marathon: I ordered two platters for two by phone and went to pick it up. I stood at the counter for almost 10 minutes before I was addressed. (In the meantime a long line formed behind me.) After paying, I noticed the bag seemed light given that it was supposed to contain food for 4 people, but I'd never been there before so I didn't complain. (I should have.) After I got home, it became clear that a huge amount of food was missing. One of the platters was their non-vegetarian version which was supposed to have lots of meat, but the only meat was one small piece of chicken. I immediately called them to ask about it, but was immediately put on hold for 5 minutes, then they hung up. I shrugged it off and we ate anyway, but the food was just "meh." Marathon has plenty of good reviews, so this experience was very surprising. Either they were having an off night, or they have a new employee who needs to be fired. We...

Updated 10/17 I boosted ratings after going there for lunch with a friend. The food was so much fresher and tastier. Service was more prompt as well. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ First time here and to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I have questions for folks who highly rate the food. I’m not sure they have had a gyro anywhere else or maybe even beef. Not much of this was Greek.

It was not flavorful, dry, what moisture it had was oil. Others at the table also said it was “the most ok steak and cheese sub”.

We waited 15 mins to place an order, another 10-15 to get the food. The fellow at the register also was the waiter and busser as well.

Soap machine in the bathroom didn’t dispense. Place looked dingy. 92 health rating seems...

This was my first visit. Actually I have never heard of The Marathon Restaurant until a friend drove us there for lunch. It has a Greek themed layout. The tables and atmosphere were polished and relaxing. The staff, cashier were polite and friendly. The cashier knew I've never been there before and helped me order by giving me the quick rundown of what's popular and the ingredients. That is how I ended up ordering the steak and cheese sub, and I must say it was absolutely delicious! I have ate other steak and cheese subs from places like Jersey Mike's and Subway, and it was good. However, The Marathon was better! I love their fries, too! I cannot wait to go back and try more of their food.

Stopped here for lunch and had a basic gyro platter and their "four seasons special". The food was good, but honestly I've had better gyro platters than this. It would've been nice if the styrofoam dining ware they used was a flat plate instead of a partitioned one. I'd like to actually be able to mix my fries into the platter. The interior is also horribly outdated, but it has a unique feel if you're into that, I guess. The food was decent. I left feeling full and I felt that I paid a fair price, but don't expect anything mind-blowing.
