I’ve been to Wok & Spice a couple of times now and every time the food has been really good. This place is not a traditional Indian restaurant. It’s more of an Indian and Thai fusion, so the flavors are a bit different from what you might expect. That’s why it’s a good idea to ask the server before ordering. The staff is very kind and helpful and they’re happy to explain the dishes or help you choose something that suits your taste.
We ordered quite a few things Paneer Chilli Momos Paneer Chilli Sichuan Paneer Veg Manchurian Veggie Noodles Rick’s Garlic Fried Rice Coconut Curry
The Paneer Chilli Momos were one of my favorites. You get four large pieces and they come in a spicy red sauce that’s full of flavor. I do wish the momos were smaller with more pieces so they’d be easier to eat and share. Still, they tasted great.
The Paneer Chilli was also excellent. The paneer was soft inside with a slight crunch outside, which made the texture really enjoyable. We also had the Veg Manchurian, which had the same sauce as the Paneer Chilli. Both were good, but since the base is the same, I would recommend choosing one. I personally preferred the Paneer Chilli.
The Sichuan Paneer didn’t quite match what I was expecting. I thought it would be like the Indian-style Schezwan paneer with a bold red sauce, but it came dry and didn’t have the same strong flavor. Again, this is where asking the server can help because some dishes might not match the traditional Indian versions exactly.
The Garlic Fried Rice had a nice flavor but could have used a bit more garlic and strong flavor. The Coconut Curry was smooth and mild and paired really well with the rice. The Veggie Noodles were simple and complemented the other dishes nicely.
The restaurant has a lot of open space and feels clean and bright. It’s a good spot for casual dinners or group gatherings. I do think the seating could be a little cozier to make the space feel warmer and more inviting.
Final thoughts Wok & Spice is a great place if you’re looking to try something a little different. The food is full of flavor, the staff is friendly, and the fusion menu offers a unique experience. Just ask questions if you’re unsure about anything. The people there are happy to help and it makes for an even better...
Read moreRead some reviews and wanted to try. My wife and I experienced wok and spice for the first time. Service at first, was very friendly and helpful. Waiter explained meals and menu etc. very attentive, I liked that. The restaurant says Asian eatery, it was more of a different Indian Chinese mix. Which yes is Asian. But Indian food I would go to saffron 100%. It wasn’t Indian. Chinese food I would go to china in Mauldin! Or other Chinese restaurants. It wasn’t Chinese. Not really sure what they were going for, but it wasn’t that great! Not terrible, but a chic fi la pretzel club would have me 10 out of 10 before i spent $50 to come back here just saying. Also, this is my experience and opinion so don’t get offended.
My wife ordered the ginger chicken and broccoli. Very bland chicken. No flavor. Not really any ginger taste. We got a side of the ginger sauce. That was good. they needed to put that in the meal! Anyway, she had lo mien noodles which were ok. Nothing extra, or sought after. Don’t recommend
I ordered the Mongolian beef which had some good flavor. Not disappointed, but nothing wow special. it was hyped up more than I was expecting. I said I liked spice and the waiter recommended spice level 1. It was nothing. I asked for some extra spice and he gave me a bottle of their hottest sauce. Wasn’t the best. My wife doesn’t eat spice and she said it was spicy but not crazy. The hottest sauce, not the food itself.
Anyway, the waiter got caught up talking to family at the restaurant. They were having a birthday, nothing wrong with that. But when you pay attention to your family and friends more than customers. That’s a problem. I was waiting for water refill for 5 minutes at least. They were tentative at first but after they served, it was like no attention. I more than likely will not go back. I believe the restaurants at Haywood mall have...
Read moreI ordered online takeout at noon to be ready at 12:20. When I arrived I stood at the counter for over five minutes with no acknowledgment from any staff. When a staff member finally came up he told me it would be another 10 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes I asked a server if she could check on how much longer it would be. She came back out wondering around doing nothing but never came back to me. After waiting a little longer I needed to go but couldn't get anyone's attention. Finally the staff member who said it would be a 10 minute wait walked up but only because someone else came in and was standing and waiting. I told him I wanted a refund. He gave it to me with no apologies whatsoever. I even said, "an apology would help you in the review I'm going to give", but still nothing. This was my first visit to this resturant so I can't comment on the food, but the staff I encountered were not pleasant or helpful nor am I inclined to wait an additional 40 minutes once I arrive to pick up an online order. Try this new resturant if you don't mind spending an hour or longer to...
